DAZN VP: PPV model is not sustainable
Pay per view television is one of the UFC's main revenue streams, and is priced at $64.99 for high def. With 13 shows per year, a fan who buys all of them is looking at around $850. North American senior vice president Joseph Markowski of the new Bellator + Combate Americas + boxing streaming service DAZN argues that's, "a cost to the working man and woman of the U.S. that is unsustainable. Long-term, the impact of that is to shrink the size of the addressable audience." By contrast, DAZN is $9.99 month, which Markowski describes as “a very low incremental add given the value of those offers, and one that comes with the complete flexibility to the consumer. ... We’re taking pay-per-view level fights off of pay-per-view and making those available in high volume at a very low cost,. So that represents a dramatic cost savings for an MMA fan.”
Miesha Tate: Amanda Nunes hits like a man, has power to KO Cris Cyborg
Former UFC women's bantamweight champion Miesha Tate appeared recently on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show and talked about current division champ Amanda Nunes moving up to fight featherweight champ Cris Cyborg at UFC 232 on December 29. “I obviously think Cyborg is going to win, she is the woman to beat and until I see something largely monumental going against Cyborg, she is pretty much going to be the one I always pick against any other woman on this planet,” said Tate. “That being said, Amanda hits like a man. I can say first-hand that she hits so hard. And it looks effortless, she is very natural at it. She’s got this falcon-like wingspan, it’s very long. Cyborg may be surprised by how hard she gets hit by Amanda. I don’t believe Cyborg is going to want to walk through the punches like she does with every other female she’s ever fought. You’re not going to want to do that against Amanda. She might be smaller than you, but she packs one hell of a punch and she could hurt Cyborg. She has the power to knock Cyborg out, I do believe that. I don’t think it will happen this fight, but if Cyborg doesn’t actually come in with a strategy and just wants to bully Amanda, she might get hurt." H/T MMA Mania

Khabib Nurmagomedov: ‘I am the Floyd Mayweather in MMA’
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has never lost, and never even lost a round in the UFC, a record that some liken to that of prizefighter Floyd Mayweather, who stopped former UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor in one of the most lucrative boxing matches in history. At the UFC 229 press conference in New York, 'The Eagle' made the case. "I am the Floyd Mayweather in MMA," argued Nurmagmedov. "Right now, I am most active and dominant UFC champion. This is my third fight in last nine months and 26-0, never lose round. I don't know what [McGregor] is talking about. I don't understand what he gonna do 6 October. He think whiskey gonna help him?" Serra: Aging fighters are like aging strippers
UFC Hall of Famer Matt Serra is 44, some four years younger than Chuck Liddell, who is having a trilogy fight this year vs. Tito Ortiz, 43. However, 'The Terra' retired in 2010, and explains why. "I always say an aging fighter is like an aging stripper," explained Serra. "Fighters, they're not as funny. An aging stripper is funny. But who wants to see that? I don't want to take my shirt off on TV. ... Here's when I knew it was time not to fight anymore. Usually, when someone would say they want to fight me, back in the day, I'd get pissed off, and I'd be like, 'oh really? You just made the mistake of your life, motherf@$%er' And I remember, literally, I was on my iPhone and I was about to go to the park with my kid, and I saw someone call me out, and I was like, ‘I don't give a s***.' That's when I knew it was over." H/T MMA Fighting
