goku - having lived overseas, i can tell you that many many foreigners hate it when american born and bred people claim to be part of their culture/heritage... I suppose this is why Davis is always boo'd in Ireland. /sarcasm

DBerry -Rickmassmma - Oscar de la Hoya was born in Southern California, yet nobody shits on him when he talks about his mexican heritage. Oscar's ancestors came from Mexico, just as Marcus' came from northern Ireland. Agreed- waterford= teh scum

So, according to this bloke, only people born and raised in a country can be proud to be from that particular heritage? That's stupid.

This thread has gone too far. Dan Hardy is wisely promoting himself into a high profile fight. Look how he has all you Numbnutz going on about it.

As an Irishman, born and raised in Dublin. And still living here, can I just say that Marcus Davis being proud of his heritage is something that I support. And if you saw the UFC in dublin, you'll notice that about 9,500 Irishmen supported him as well.. So if someone says that he shouldn't be proud of his heritage, then they are also saying that we, as irishmen, were wrong to support him. I say have the fight in Dublin. We'll see who gets the biggest welcome. Also, Marcus kind of reminds me of John Duddy.

Hardy is alot better than anybody that just got their first glimpse of him Saturday can even imagine. I wouldn't be so sure about picking Davis over him... But, he comes off a bit gay crying about a guy for making a niche for himself away from his own country.

I dont really understand why people like Marcus Davis are so fond of Ireland when you are born and raised in America. My family is from England and Germany, but Im an American. Im not Englsih or German. I dont really care one way or the other, but wtf is up not showing love for your motherland, the USA. Its true though about what that dude above me said about Americans trying to claim other heritages. They dont tend to like that stuff over seas. I live in Asia and I know for a fact that a lot of asians that are born in Asia and move to the US at an early age are no longer thought of as native when they come back as an adult. They are treated as a foreigner. Its really hard to explain.

I'm not going to get on here and talk at all about the Irish Vs American crap. Its old news. All I will say is I told Joe Silva to make this happen for June 13th in Germany- neutral ground for both of us. So it is in Joe Silva's control. This whole "calling me out" thing started at the Q&A in London when his manager sent up a guy to ask me if I would fight Dan and I said lets do it. I think he is a talented fighter but I also think I will pound his face into dust. Anyone who thinks he's more technical then me- you are allowed to your opinion even though it is wrong. I fight each fight differently because YOU HAVE TO. This fight wont look like the others just as the others don't look like the ones before them.

I remember when I lived in Ireland, the Irish always use to laugh and make fun of Americans who would claim to be Irish based upon the fact that some relative of their's had came over to the United States from Ireland a 100 years earlier. There are less than 6 million people in all of Ireland, but nearly 50 million Americans of Irish descent.

Chappie, I have no idea what your circular reasoning or red herring has to do with the discussion.

Marcus Irish Davis - I'm not going to get on here and talk at all about the Irish Vs American crap. Its old news. Marcus - you would destroy this kid. No question. Frist round KO. Now, what are your thoughts on the Travis the Chimp situation? Specifically, have the events that unfolded in Connecticut over the last few weeks regarding Travis changed your mind about possibly owning a chimp in the future?

Also good work on talksport and setanta Marcus, you represented yourself and the sport well and came across as accessible and articulate, particularly on talksport where the typical listener will still only be interested in MMA because they think of it as 'ard geezers deckin' each other. Hardy makes it difficult to get behind him at times, but I'll still be backing him.

Rickmassmma - Oscar de la Hoya was born in Southern California, yet nobody shits on him when he talks about his mexican heritage. Oscar's ancestors came from Mexico, just as Marcus' came from northern Ireland. Actually, a lot of Mexican fans don't like Oscar because they think he's phony and a quitter. They like guys like Margarito who are actually from Mexico and don't quit when they get hit in the And I don't mind Marcus, but he definitely tries to suck up to whatever foreign audience he happens to be in front of. I don't have a problem with that though, everybody has gotta get paid.
