Sorry to disagree, he was being grossly ineffective and basically wasting the fight in boredom. Good stand up.
On another note, the referee should have been much quicker to break the wasteful, useless and unending clinching in the Carano fight.

CroCop vs. Gonzaga had a terrible stand up too. At least that one worked out for the fighter who got the short end of the stand up stick.

totalwreckage - Jared Shaw was probably yelling STAND THEM UP STAND THEM UP
HE WAS!!!! That little piece of shit was barking orders to the ref the whole event..fucking sad!
I didn't know that promoters could corner fighters on their own event card...Sad...

Joe Rogan - PAGrappler412 - In your opinion Joe under what conditions/circumstances would YOU want a standup or restart...or are you completely against them?ttt for answerI honestly think we shouldn't have them at all. You get a stand up if you can survive the round and make it to the next. If a guy can force you to stand up with him by avoiding the take downs, a guy should be able to force you to fight on the ground by holding you down. It's mixed martial arts, and that's a part of the game. I think these stand ups are incredibly unfair for grapplers. Like I'm quoted earlier in this thread, 5 minutes isn't that long a time.If a guy can hold you down and give you nuggies for 5 minutes, that's life.If a fighter is boring they won't be popular, and that lack of popularity will affect the way they're paid.I think that's what should motivate fighters to be active, not a referee stand up. idk about that one joe. force them to fight on the ground? im all for that. but does lying on someone for 3 rounds WITHOUT advancing position make you a winner?

I too am bored by someone simultaneously kneeing his opponent while working a kimura. What a waste. He was ONLY using four limbs to attack!

Arlovskis grappling hasnt seemed to improve one bit ever since I first saw him.He fights like he doesnt even train ground.
We have every reason to think that Nelson may have finished him that position, and the standup was absolutely bullshit.
The ref kinda helped out Arlovski on the ground against Pe De Pano too if you remember.

Horrible stand up shocked the shit out of me...BUT....
Wasnt the LACK of stand ups really what sent the UFC into the dark ages and off of PPV?
I'm not saying it's right, but it's a business that needs an audience, and most of the audience aren't MMA savy like us.
Either way that standup was fucking bad tonight. Even more fuel for the fire for CBS noobs.

Joe Rogan - Big Country had Arlovski in fucking side control working on a kimura and he got stood up.

Fights should never be stood up, fact. If to fighters aren't active standing up do you stop the fight then restart it on the ground?

jorge ortiz is the same referee who, during the edson berto vs. yves edwards match, kept asking for action and imploring the fighters to improve position...all this while berto was rolling yves over into a guillotine attempt and yves escaped into an immediate and slick kimura attempt.
is he a boxing referee? how can he not know about these positions and be calling an mma match?
