From Dave Meltzer...
"Bobby Lashley’s third pro match is scheduled against former NFL defensive tackle Marcus Jones on 4/25 in Knoxville for the XFC promotion. The card will air live on HDNet. Jones, 35, (4- 2), is 6-6, 278 pounds and was the first round draft choice out of North Carolina by the Tampa Bay Bucs in 1996. He played seven seasons in the NFL, and trains out of the Gracie gym in Tampa and debuted as a pro 28 months ago. In his last match, on 2/14 in Daytona Beach, Jones finished John Juarez in 1:39."
I think this is another great fight for Bobby. This will not only put him in there with someone who has more MMA experience, but the guy is bigger/stronger than him, so it will force him to rely more heavily on the technique he's been training at ATT. Thoughts?
***EDIT***
It looks like this fight fell through, but will post an update on it as I get more info. I apologize about posting this, but I, and many other people/MMA news sites, thought it was a done deal.

Not the type of fight Lashley needs imo.
I think he should be fighting somebody with more experience and a winning record unlike Guida to see where he stands

I thought Guida showed pretty much where he stands at the moment?

I'm assuming he's doing what his coaches are asking of him at ATT, so they have their reasons for taking this fight, and I can't imagine it's for anything except cage/ring time. No matter how you cut it, it's good for him.

if he is going to fight frequently, there is nothing wrong with continuing with slowly. he gets experience, and the smaller promoters get a name for their main event.
win/win, imo.

Anybody that says Lashley should be fighting someone w/ alot more experience and a winning record for his 3rd ever MMA fight is an idiot.
yeah the guy has potential, but he is still a HUUUUUGE rookie. He needs to be brought along slowly, build his confidence, and get experience.
Good thing some of you aren't managing fighters. You would ruin alot of great prospects before they even get started.

StretchPlum Have you seen Marcus Jones fight? Bobby had trouble taking Guida down. And he had a good 20 to 30 pounds on Guida. Marcus is bigger then him and in a lot better shape the Guida. Like many that have watched both fighters here in Florida I feel at this point Marcus is a better fighter and most likely with take this fight

Marcus is not very good. He's f'n huge, but he's not very good. I'm not doggin' him, I actually like him as a fighter. He doesn't have a ground game. He doesn't have the wrestling aspect of it either. Lashley is on a different level when it comes to the ground game, because of his wrestling background. Bobby may not have the jiu-jitsu aspect of the ground game yet, but everyone knows that a wrestler of Lashley's caliber is going to be hard to submit because of his ability to stay in good position. Lashley will get the takedown and punch Marcus' face until Marcus gets knocked out.
The ONLY way Marcus even has a chance is in the stand up game and even that is stretching it. I saw Marcus get knocked out cold in about 13 seconds. No way Marcus wins this fight.

It's a matchup that makes sense for Lashley.
Thanks HDNet for putting it on for free. It won't be long before Lashley fights will cost 54.95 in HD.

Lashley needs to decide what he wants. He can be a freakshow and have matches like this or he can work his ass of like Brock and use his phenominal wrestling base to make a legit run.

Some of you are unrealistic with what you expect out of someone whose had 2 pro fights. If anything, I think that ATT knows what they're doing and how to groom a champion, so I'm sure he's doing the right things. One things for sure, he definitely isn't taking a break and is staying on the grind.

Great fight for Bobby, it will be good to see what he can do when he doesn't have a size and strength advantage.

He has a ton of potential with his wrestling base and the camp he trains with. We have seen recently though he is still very new, and not mentally able to hold a game plan together.
Give him time
