Teixeira believes he'll need shoulder surgery
Jon Jones injured Glover Teixeira's shoulder with an improvised overhook at UFC 172 in 2014, and the Brazilian had shoulder surgery. Now Teixeira has injured the other shoulder and is out vs. Jimi Manuwa and UFC Fight Night 137. He'll learn Thursday if he needs surgery. ”I visited [the doctor] before, but since I got injured again, I’ll see if something [got worse]. We’ll see if I need surgery or only physical therapy. I think I’ll need surgery because I wanted to have surgery before. The doctor had already told me that my rotator cuff was injured,” Teixeira said. “And I think it just got worse now.” H/T MMA Fighting

Leites to retire following UFC Fight Night 137, after 12+year UFC career
Thales Leites started fighting in 2003 and by 2006 he was a perfect 9-0 and got a UFC contract. Now he plans to retire after fighting Hector Lombard at UFC Fight Night 137 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. on September 22.
“I’m going to be 37, I already have a pretty big number of fights,” Leites said. “I don’t want to stay at 37, 38, 39 doing this very intense training that also has a lot of impact to the head – the famous concussion. Like it or not, every training session, you’re taking impact to the head. Not to mention the abrupt weight cuts. Doing that two to three times a year, we know it’s not healthy. ... But how is the future of the athletes who started doing these weight cuts, their old age? I’ve had many fights, so I don’t have the same drive, that same hunger to keep training and competing that I did before. I think my time has come. Now, there are new generations coming in. I’m happy for everything I did, everything I went through. I really enjoyed the journey and I’ll keep enjoying it, in a different way. ... I leave it very satisfied and with my head held high. Like any athlete, I’ve had highs and lows in MMA. Fighting isn’t simple – you’re meeting someone who prepared just as much as you to be there. Two will go in there to fight and one will leave as the winner. This is an obvious conclusion and you can’t escape that."
