Female blue belt detains shoplifter
On Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. on Rua Pinheiro Machado in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, Patricia Melo, 26, saw a man running from security guards after allegedly stealing from a store. Most people would get out of the way, many would whip out a cell phone, but Melo has two years of Jiu-Jitsu, and recently was awarded her blue belt after winning white belt at the Rio Grande do Sul championship.
According to the police, the man, later identified as Fernando Vieira Zimmermann, entered a chocolate store and ran off with some product. Melo stopped him, took him down, and safely held him until police arrived and arrested him.
"He was running away from four security guards and he was running down the street from my house when I left the porch of the building and saw him coming towards me," said Melo to Brazils Leouve. "My reaction was to hold him and immobilize until the police arrived and everything was resolved."
Two boxes of chocolate were found at the scene. The accused was taken to police headquarters where he was booked.
