NAAFS: Midwest Combat Challenge 7

NAAFS: Midwest Combat Challenge 7 - Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Event on April 25, 2009 in Akron, Ohio USA

The North American Allied Fight Series returns to Chapparell’s Community Center in Akron, OH on Saturday April 25th, 2009 for Midwest Combat Challenge 7. The road to Fight Nite in the Flats V will be in full swing as the top stars in the National Amateur Series are set to do battle, in one of the most anticipated fight cards of the entire year. This event will feature a blend of new blood, along with long familiar names making their return to competition. The main event will pit Cody Butzer (5-1) of East Coast Martial Arts and Instigator Fight Team against Jason Wolfe (5-3-1) of Team Jorge Gurgel in a National Amateur Welterweight division showdown. Butzer, once consider by many to be a top prospect in the sport, steps back inside an MMA cage for the first time in over two years looking to regain the spot he once held and for a chance at redemption. Although he does sport a 5-1 record, it’s the one loss that Butzer suffered in his only previous NAAFS outing; now he is looking to rewrite history. Wolfe made successful debut in the NAAFS at Rumble on the Runway, where he defeated Dan Clause by Split Decision in what many called the Fight of the Night. However, Wolfe’s most recent fight resulted in a third round loss to Russ Halsey and now he too is looking to make the wrong things right. Both of these stellar competitors have experienced the joys of victory and the agony of defeat and are now looking to climb back to the top of the National Amateur Welterweight Division. Another highly anticipated fight on the card will feature 2008 National Amateur Middleweight finalist Chris Lozano (4-1) of Strong Style Fight Team in his last amateur fight, when he takes on Rashad “The Nightmare” Pearson (3-0) of Pain Headquarters. Lozano is looking to rebound after being defeated by AJ Aeschlimann at Night of Champions and will have the opportunity to issue the same fate to Pearson: his first loss. Rashad Pearson is considered by many to be one of the names to keep an eye on the Middleweight Division, having recently scored a victory over another tough warrior in Neil Delos Reyes. Although it has already been announced that Lozano is scheduled to face Chuck Ellison at Fight Nite in the Flats V, Pearson is out to show his opponent that you never put the proverbial cart before the horse. Akron’s own Jeremy Matheny (2-2) of Pain Headquarters will be back in action against Team GriffonRawl’s Brian McKrosky (4-2) in what promises to be a war. Matheny has been sidelined for sometime with an injury, but upon his return asked for the toughest competitor available and his request has been granted. Brian McKrosky’s most recent outing was a war against eventual National Finalist Sean Paul Veilleux in a Fight of the Year nominee for 2008. These two young warriors are set to do battle at Midwest Combat Challenge 7. In National Amateur Featherweight action, two of the division’s early pioneers both make their long awaited returns when John Strmac (5-2) of Team GriffonRawl takes on East Liverpool’s Jason Eckles (2-1). Strmac, former co-host of NAAFS Radio, developed a cult following with his witty and intellectual insight on the sport and is now looking to return to roots of active competition. Eckles has been out of action since NAAFS War on the Shore, where he lost a tough fight to the always outspoken “Small” Paul Martin. With the National Amateur Featherweight Division still wide open, the winner of this fight will immediately put himself into the mix when the long awaited rankings are released. A cross town rivalry will continue as the next generation of fighters are set to do battle when Ryan Lose (3-0) of Team GriffonRawl takes on Kenny “The Black Spartan” Jackson (2-1) of Strong Style Fight Team. Although several fight teams now encompass the NAAFS, the rivalry between GriffonRawl and Strong Style is as old as the NAAFS itself. Over the years, these two camps have stepped it up a notch when competing against one another and this fight promises to be no different. The complete fight card for NAAFS Midwest Combat Challenge 7 will be available soon on NAAFS.tv, featuring many more top names in the National Amateur Series. Tickets are on sale now by calling 330-280-8442 or by logging onto NAAFS.tv. Don’t miss a minute of the action when the most star-studded NAAFS event in Akron’s history takes place on Saturday April 25th from the Chapparell’s Community center. The official after party of Midwest Combat Challenge 7 will be held at Gatsby’s Pub on Romig Road in Akron, OH. Don’t miss your opportunity to meet the fighters, on-air personalities, Cage Girls, and more!
