This is very effective against bigger guys too.

We used to call it "baldinho" (little bucket) choke.

This is a highly effective and highly underrated joke. I've been using it for about 10 years I'm always surprised so I can catch it on.

That is my main move but I set it up from the triangle. As soon as they are setting the triangle up my out side arm goes for the collar and I turn the corner and drop my weight. When the legs open my inside arm reaches back and grabs the belt and I pull up and set my knee in their back so they can't kick out as I sprawl out and put all my weight on their neck. I've caught guys I have no business catching with this set up. It's all about timing on my part and I've been triangled almost to sleep probably 500x before I got most of the kinks worked out.

My old coaches used to yell at me "you are not supposed to let them triangle you on purpose so you can pass their guard or choke them!" lol

You gotta do what you gotta do.  Look at your old training partners, hard to do anything else except bait a submission.  Haha. Good times.

I've had it done to me before... I don't usually do it myself.

When I have trouble, it's with guys are pretty good at countering by gable gripping under your arm pit and pulling your arm in if you don't have good control of them.

tapnaporsnapbro - is this a throat crush or a blood choke?

Both, but it can also hit the cervical and even if you don't fully get the choke, the pressure on the diaphragm can make it hard to breath for some people....it sucks.

I like that choke. I've used it since white belt. It's a great pass/sub combo.

The paper cutter is probably my favourite choke in the gi, so that might be why I like it so much.

glad i saw this thread too. for some reason if some big dude did that to me i would think it wasn't a legit move and would want to kick his ass afterwards.

I call it the elevator choke and I either learned it from a Pedro Sauer DVD or extrapolated it from something else he taught. Love this choke. Even if it doesn't finish, it usually greases the guard pass and makes it easier.
