So I have attended a large number of my kids tournaments in various sports. The kids BJJ tournaments I've attended have typically always had the best parents and spectators. Sure there is the odd exception, but they typically don't train in BJJ.
Well what I witnessed today takes the cake. While at a tournament in the Pacific Northwest, a man named Adam Guerra, from Alvin, TX, who runs https://www.guerrasmixedmartialarts.com/ was absolutely out of control. At first people noticed his behavior shortly after his sons loss in the gi finals. Hey no big deal right? However the father and son begin berating the ref, and Mr. Guerra tries to bump into the other coach.
The other coach gently says something to Mr. Guerra, essentially to calm down. This coach is well known in the area, well liked, and has the support of almost everyone in the vicinity. The son's behavior isn't far off from the fathers.
The nogi tournament begins and his 11 or 12 year old son goes in wild and attempts to kneebar the other kid. Immediate DQ. Except it doesn't end there.
The father literally goes ballistic and choke grabs his son and drags him off to the side of the mats screaming at him. He is effectively winding up to punch his son in the face which holding him with the other hand by the throat.
The most amazing thing is if he is willing to do this in front of hundred's or people, not to mention dozens of high ranking BJJ black belts, including a number that are the size of Shrek how is he treating his son behind the scenes?
A couple of people stepped in and separated the father, who then stormed off out the front. The poor kid was so embarrassed and shamed by the even he just lied on the gym floor for over an hour crying.
If you know this guy or live in Alvin, TX, understand who you are having train your children.
If you are Adam Guerra and are reading this: Get yourself some help. Put your poor son in therapy and get him the help he needs. Yes, his BJJ is decent. No, you are NOT the reason for his success. You are the reason for his failures. A complete coward.
