OtherGround Forums How do you dress when you travel?

I travel a lot.

Most of my travel is business related and I fly back the same day, so I just get on the plane in a fine tailored suit, and sensible shoes.

When I travel for personal reasons I still dress nice.

I don't wear one of my suits, but  I will wear nice slacks and a dress shirt or fashionable sweater. In a pinch I will wear jeans, but offset the casual look with fine leather dress shoes and patterned silk socks.

What I don't get are people who show up to the airport like they just got out of bed. Flip flops, uggs, pajama pants, tshirt. It is hard to tell if they are homeless people who wandered in from Brooklyn, or if they are fellow travelers. They generally carry a lot of shit onto the plane with them. Pillows, movies, music, snacks, water, etc, etc, etc...

Me? A book at most. I check my bag like a civilized man. Carry at most a good novel. I sit peacefully on the plane with a cocktail and a book, or sometimes just a cocktail and my own thoughts. No pillows, blankets, movies, music, wedging of knees against seat, folding into akward positions to get a crappy nap. No, I sit there, like a grown up.

Is this how some like to present themselves to the world?

What if you engage yourself with another traveler who could be a beneficial relationship, this is how you say, "Hi, this is who I am? A fucking Schlepper?"

No, you probably aren't engaged by others because of yor presentation.

Dress nice when you travel.

Whatever I happen to be wearing that day. I don't wear suits or anything so I don't have to worry about being uncomfortable.

This looks like fist bumps on all three genders.

How I normally dress when I'm not at work. Jeans, t-shirt, sneakers, and a bunnyhug. Maybe a hat, maybe not.

I travel with two backpacks. The big one I pack my clothes in and a smaller one for carry on with a water bottle, book, clean gotch/socks and a pen. When I get to where I'm going, I put my smaller backpack into my bigger one.

Jeans, sports jacket, and dress shoes is my airport uniform. Unless I need to be working the day I am travelling then it will change.

The sports jacket is multi purpose in looking nice, alleviating the need for an actual jacket, and providing some additional pocket space. Feels like I always have 10 extra things in my pockets when I am at an airport.

Do you smell of cigarettes and cheap beer when you get on the plane?

Do yo also order fast food in the terminal and bring it on with you?

I am willing to admit as a younger man ie an idiot, I dressed pretty poorly when flying. Not to the degree shown in this thread but I'd wear jeans and a zip up hoodie. I cringe upon reflection. You don't have to wear a tux but at least look like you're trying.

I have a friend who wore gym pants to the movie theatre and realized what I had been doing and had a come to jesus moment.

I never check a bag, ever. Fuck adding an extra half hour to your travel time waiting in that horrific luggage carousel shitshow.

Ha! What's with people bringing fast food on the plane with them?? Now the whole plane smells like whoppers.

There's a tim Hortons in every airport now in Canada and I find it comical watching people try to load themselves onto a plane with an extra large double double and all their shit.

Billy Bishop airport in Toronto is the most civilized airport I have ever been too.
