I have red hair and I just find the phrase slightly annoying, not offensive. More than just the word, it's that people love thinking they're the first person to say, "You know gingers don't have souls right? Right??"

It's just not funny and not original. By all means make a joke at my expense; if it's funny I'll laugh as much as anyone. But just repeating that line for the four thousandth time doesn't even count as a joke. There's nothing to laugh at, so don't call me defensive if I don't laugh or if I respond with something like, "You know fat people are sad at the deepest part of their being because they know that no matter how close they get to reaching their dreams, they will never accomplish as much as they could if they were fit -- both because of how limited they are by their laziness and because deep down they know that at a very basic level they live in a society that is repulsed by them -- right? You heard that one about you guys, right??"
