Browne a free agent

Travis Browne has won three consecutive bouts in the UFC's heavyweight division and will likely next fight Fabricio Werdum to determine the number one contender. Browne however is in a unique position in that he fought the last fight of UFC contract in his last bout versus Barnett. It is likely a matter of negotiating a new contract, but Browne is technically a free agent:

“There’s no deal done between the UFC and Travis Browne right now, but all the talks that have been had up to this point indicate that we will be getting something done in the very near future, and they’ve always been fair with Travis,” said John Fosco of VFD Marketing, who’s represented the fighter since 2010.

Browne knocked out Barnett with vicious elbows at this past month’s UFC 168 event. Prior to the bout, the UFC confirmed that the winner would fight Werdum, who previously was designated the No. 1 contender before champion Cain Velasquez (13-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) was benched with a shoulder injury.

Werdum today told MMAFighting.com that the title eliminator would be a five-round headliner and is targeted for March, so time is of the essence for the Browne camp.

“The UFC would like the deal done yesterday,” said Fosco, who added Browne “wants to be a UFC champion” when asked whether he was free to entertain offers from other promotions.

Odds are pretty good he is still in an exclusive period, which means he won't entertain other offers for some time.

That's true, but he's already sad he wants the fight the best and make a run for the UFC title, and all the best Heavyweghts in MMA are in the UFC. I mean Bellator has Minakov who could potentially be on the fringes of the top 10, but besides him who else is there outside the UFC?

This

His potential next to fights are big fights. If he gets passed Werdum, he is going to fight Cain for the title when he is coming off a year lay off. Going to stay for sure Phone Post 3.0

werdum vs browne on march 23rd in brazil?

Problem is, then what do you do with the winner? Cain is out realistically until Nov or Dec. Phone Post 3.0

the winner would just wait... I think it would be better to get the fight over with earlier incase the winner comes out with an injury.

Zuffa has a march 23rd date in brazil which will need a headliner.  Besides shogun, werdum or JDS  i dont think any other brazilian is available nor suitable.

It won't happen, but if Browne decided to sign elsewhere and keep winning, become a champion, defend the belt, it would add some real legitimacy to that promotion.

Browne could stay with that promotion, call out UFC and their heavyweights, and make some noise. I actually think Browne would benefit more by being a big fish in a small pond, b/c I dont' think there's any way he gets past Cain.
