https://sports.yahoo.com/controversial-draw-canelo-noncommittal-ggg-rematch-160753235.html

Twelve hellacious rounds wasn’t enough to provide a clear winner between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. 36 minutes of action only left us wanting more and the fact that one scorecard was absolutely atrocious — Adelaide Byrd’s 118-110 score for Canelo — it was obvious that everyone wanted more.

Obvious for everyone but Canelo Alvarez.

In a showdown that was dubbed as “The Real Fight,” Canelo and GGG battled to a split draw in a sensational fight that satisfied the lofty expectations of fans across the globe. But without a victor being decided, one would expect both fighters to jump at the opportunity to do it again. Not only that, but a rematch during Cinco De Mayo weekend in 2018 stands to eclipse what will likely be massive gate and PPV numbers from the first fight.

Golovkin wasted no time calling for the rematch.

“This was the big drama show,” Golovkin said while citing his catchphrase. “Of course I want the rematch. Look I still have all the belts, I’m still the champion.”

But Canelo refused to demand a rematch despite his performance and the fact that he was unable to snare away the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight titles that Golovkin held. Instead, Canelo put the onus on the fans to ask for rematch.

“If the fans want to see it again, why not?” Alvarez said in his post-fight interview.

At the post-fight news conference, it appeared that Oscar De La Hoya waffled back and forth on the rematch and was hesitant to commit. Initially, he said that Alvarez would exercise a rematch clause but it was later clarified that Team Alvarez would take some time to ponder their options before a decision was made.

This is made all the more interesting by the fact that a rematch would find Canelo (27 years old) still in his prime boxing years while GGG would turn 36 by the time the two fighters met again.

But Canelo made it clear that he thought he won the fight and didn’t flinch when he proclaimed this as “The Canelo Era,” despite many fans and those ringside believing that GGG’s aggression was more than enough to win the fight. With scores of 115-113, 114-114 and the bizarre 118-110, this had all the makings of a great rivalry and an even greater sequel. However, Canelo simply said he would return home, relax and take his time before making a decision.

“Right now I’m going to take some time off and we’ll sit down with our team and decide what’s next,” Alvarez said. “I just want to enjoy this.”

That's kinda odd... I don't think I've ever heard a combat sports participant talk about "enjoying" a draw.

I think he performed to his maximum abilities. I'm not sure he does better against GGG next time. Might be in his best interest to avoid the rematch.

Very easy to understand considering it came from Adelaide Byrd.

He is enjoying it because he knows he should have lost that fight.

GGG probably hasn't declined as much as they anticipated. They will probably waffle on this for a while, hoping GGG gets older and declines more before a rematch. Maybe wait for him to take another match and see if he looks older. Plus it gives Canelo more time on the Mexican supplements.

Canelo impressed me by digging deep in the later rounds, but it's hard to imagine the greats talking like he is right now. He lost the fight and him, Oscar, and his entire squad knows it. He doesn't want any more.

Canelo knows he didn't win that fight. And he'll know even more when he watches it back on tape. He did as well as someone could do against Golovkin - so I give him credit. Golovkin is getting older though and Canelo could capitalise on that 2 years down the line when Golovkin has slowed down and try get a rematch.

Nowhere did he say he wasn't interested in the fight... in fact he said the opposite, saying if the fans want it then why not? All he said was he wants some time away to enjoy life with his family and friends. Pretty normal after a near 6 month training camp... nobody is making posts about Conor not wanting the third nate fight while he's out there getting fat in Ibiza. God when did the UG become so terrible. Maybe I'll start using Reddit... actually a functioning community over there.

Only way you could think Canelo won that fight is if you watched it while piss drunk. Walked down the whole night, so gassed that he only fought for 30 seconds a round after the 4th, outstruck and jabbed to death. Yeah, he sure did win.

If I was Canelo I wouldn't want one either. Should have been a second loss on his record. If they fight again it will be a second loss and in most people's opinion would be his third. He would be taking a massive pay but if he lost to Golovkin again.

What kind of money did they make for the fight?

Of course he's not. He lost the first fight, and had to rely on Golden Boy and NSAC's corruption, to save his ass. He made a miscalculation on the degradation of GGG's skills, based on his age, and his last fight. He's not gonna make that mistake twice. He's gonna make damn sure Golovkin is a shell of himself, before he gives it another shot.

Guaranteed 5 mil for Canelo, 3 mil for GGG.

This!

Exactly, Canelo wants to get a couple more cycles in, and hope the age and damage slow Golovkin down enough.
