UFC veteran Chris Lytle lost his bid to win the Republican state Senate nomination in Indiana on Tuesday. He came in second with 30 percent of the vote behind Mike Crider who had 41 percent.

Lytle's last MMA bout was a win over Dan Hardy in August. He announced his retirement just before the bout, then won by a submission. His campaign started less than a month after the bout.

Lytle earned a record of 31-18-5 and picked up $515,000 in fight night bonuses during his 12-year fight career.

Hopefully he learned a lot and will be back for another go at it. He seems like he would be a great leader.

Chris Lytle is one of the all time great fighters. Maybe not in terms of W-L, but that dude always came to fight. One of my favorites. Phone Post

Not a fan of republicans in general...but I guess if there has to be one a former MMA fighter might be better than the status quo.

What I'm surprised at his $500k over 12 years in MMA. That's something like $42k a year...ouch. Not buying much with that. Phone Post

It said that 500k was only fight of the night bonuses.  Doesn't include his regular fight pay.

Dem's always struggle with reading comprehension.    ;-)     j/k

Lytle ran on a platform similar to Ron Paul's, but you must not be a fan of liberty and government accountability. Phone Post

Thats a pretty darn good showing for a first time foray into the Political realm with him having no background in this.

He should have certainly learned a lot and has gotten his name out there successfully. Many political figures did not win their first political race.

Finishing second in politics hasn't been important since the late 19th century when the 2nd place finisher would become the "spare" encase of the winner/incumbent being killed.

Ha, no, definitely not a Ron Paul fan. While I see why his positions on social issues is attractive to people who aren't all that informed on his real policies, he's really just a die hard advocate of an unfettered free market, and history has shown what that leads to (hello financial crisis).

But I digress...

I think Lytle is actually far less conservative than a Ron Paul - and maybe he would have been ok - hard to believe any politician these days. Phone Post
