Awesome and shows the kind of man Cormier is but doesn't this spread him a little thin?

Between fighting, commentating and coaching that seems like an awful lot to juggle and manage

I've been following the situation some what closely. I wondered the same thing so I reached out to a couple guys up in that area who are somewhat in the know. Word is Cormier is less than a year from retiring from MMA.

Gilroy is already a state power, placing 2nd in the state this past March.

The Principal at Gilroy is an Olympic wrestler as well.

DC lives in Gilroy as does Cain. He has a kids program he runs as does Gilroy HS team. There will be lots of talent to draw from those programs.

The team is already top notch so I'm interested to see how it goes from here. With DC retiring and already coaching kids program, it seems the perfect move for him to go into HS coaching. My only regret is it would have been nice to see him take a team that's not at the top and build another power to add to the area.

The staff is unreal with 3 AA's in college and national champs post collegiately in freestyle. It's like a staff a D1 college team might have.

Be nice to see him or any other former bamf come down to Florida like Prescott and get it going down here. Florida has the athletes

Also let's be honest if there is no job jones and possibly even clean job jones returning...there is no challenge to D.C. At all. Look at his last title from guy ffs. It was a joke. He's moving up for a superfight because the division is now a joke after he cleaned it out.

Here's a statement from Cormier

"Happy to announce that I am now the head wrestling for the Gilroy High School Mustangs. I’m so happy to be able to train and coach this great team. Coach Greg left the cupboard full and did a great job with this program, his hard work is appreciated. Thanks to my wife Salina for even allowing this, she’s my backbone and my greatest supporter. Dr Marco Sanchez, thanks for the opportunity. And to my coaching staff, you are as good as they come. Thank you Deron Winn (all-American, National Champ ), thank you Kyle Crutchmer (all-American, National Champion) and thank you Shawn Bunch (all-American , National Champion). I couldn’t do this without y’all, I lean on you so much. The boys and girls on the team, get ready we all have big goals for the upcoming season."

Dc is the fucking man. Has money but all he wants to do is give back. I saw someone post that he took no pay for TUF this season and divided it to his coaches

DC coaches have enough money anywayd if we talking the aka owners... DC is going to dominate stipe and end his career a dual champ.. I bet he defends the h.w. strap 1 time just for his legacy then retire. Live dc

It would be pretty awesome to be coached by a UFC champion in high school.

Coolest thing ever.

More reason to root for Stipe.  Cormier isn't defending.  Last fight.

Off topic: If you've never been to Gilroy, it's the Garlic Capital of the World. I used to love driving through there, because you could smell the garlic for miles on a good day and it always made me super hungry. Their Garlic Festival is July 27-29 this year. Wish I could go.

So is DC fighting Stipe then off to coaching?
