UnderGround Forums Do you people know what a split decision is?

A split decision is when 2 judges score for one guy and a 3rd judge scores for the other guy.  So when you say I don't think it should't have been unanamous but should have been a split means you are saying one judge should have scored it for the other guy.  You are basically saying what one of the judges opinions should be and that it should be different from the other 2.

As far as I know the scoring of the fight can't make it a split decision.  It can make it a draw or a loss but unanamous or split only comes by way of which judges scored it how.  I'm I correct in this?

So you can agree or disagree with it should have been 29-28 or 30-27 or whatever but unanamous and split just means the all agree or don't agree so when you say it should have been a split it means you think one guy should have disagreed with the other two but that maybe the other 2 were correct as well.

Make sense?

Cracks me up when someone says, "Man, I agree with him winning 2 of the 3 rounds, but for them to say it was unanimous?"

I hardly ever see people saying this. And when someone does, they are usually promptly called out on it and everyone moves on.

What if 2 judges scored it 29-28 and 1 judge scored it 30-27, did he unanimously win 2 rounds? The answer is no, he did not unanimously win 2 rounds.

This is why I like GSP fights, all 3 judges scoring 50-45 makes things so much more clear

2 out of 3 rounds or even all 3 rounds doesnt make it unanimous it only counts toward the score. Unless all 3 judges ageee on that.

Yeah this is very irritating, people get them confused all the time. Here are some examples that might clear things up.

Judge 1: 30-27
Judge 2: 30-27
Judge 3: 30-27
Result: Unanimous Decision

Judge 1: 30-27
Judge 2: 30-27
Judge 3: 29-28
Result: Unanimous Decision

Judge 1: 30-27
Judge 2: 29-28
Judge 3: 28-29
Result: Split Decision

I agree for the most part, but when I am watching a fight with 3 people and it is really really close, I don't expect everyone to see it exactly the same way. People look at and favor different things making it way more subjective than say boxing. When they say their own score it should be as you said but when predicting 3 peoples different scores, I think you can say it could be split.

Never heard this problem other than people unfamiliar with the sport. Usually the same people who agree with "Anonymous Decisions".

It's still a unanimous decision you idiot.

This is exactly what the guy is talking about. I've seen guys mess that up a lot on here too and it always annoys me.

this was supposed to be quoted in my last post. For some reason it didn't appear.
