When it comes to active fighters, Shogun stands out for me.

Dude had it ALL at one point.

Nowadays his cardio is always an issue, his hands (Pre-Roach) were hella sloppy (still had power, though), his kicks are non-existant and his TDD isn't great.

Dude was THE MAN @ LHW for a while. Like, the best at the weight.

Any more?

Shogun didn't need to evolve - just too many injuries. Phone Post 3.0

He was born the greatest fighter on the planet...no need to evolve.

Yes I'm serious.

These are some of my favorite fighters, some not so much, some I'm just nuetral.

I'm not trying to bash these guys.

Leonard Garcia.  Mental focus.  Never got any better.

Melvin Guillard.  Mental focus.  Never got any better.

Jake Sheilds.  Striking.  Still awkward after all these years.  Predictable.

Aoki.  Striking.  Marginally improved, but still weak-sauce.

Diaz Brothers.  Wrestling and kicks.

Dean Lister.  Striking.  Still awkward and elementary.

BJ Penn.  Pure, raw, undisciplined talent.  Only got with expected modern strength and conditioning levels for brief glimpses.

Everyone on my list is superb in at least one or more aspects.

For example, I always wonder "why hasn't Jake/Dean/Aoki focused primarily on training his striking?"  Like 90% striking until they become "very good pro-mma level" strikers.  Maia, Jacare, and Werdum have all shown marked evolution in their striking.   Why not Jake/Dean/Aoki?

Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman.  If they evolved wouldve been the best in MMA for years and years.

you may as well though in Baroni

team hammer house, bitch!

Hendo should've worked on his submission offense and remembered he was a wrestler first and he could've been a MW/LHW Matt Hughes with better punching power.

Cain should do the same as far as working on submission offense since he's so good at getting the fight to the ground.

It's a tough call though in mma. Because then you have the situation where Demian Maia starts to focus on his striking and gets in kickboxing matches and looses, then we all want him to just focus on his god damn jui jitsu. Phone Post

It's crazy to say but yes, he never evolved his wrestling. Takedowns, td defense haven't evolved. He also hadn't fought a wrestler for many years before he fought GSP, and GSP wrestlefucks everyone, so we might be jumping the gun on this one.

Matt Hughes tried but just never could develop. His standup got a little better (Gracie/Almeida) but he still didn't have very good defense Phone Post 3.0
