This has to be a real concern. Him and Diego Sanchez

I agree. So young and taking so much damage. I respect their hearts, but brain damage is no joke when in you get to be 40+

Yup, highly unsustainable style of fighting.

Yep. And he's done once he can't take a lot of damage (as we've seen with plenty of guys). Just doesn't have the precision that would allow him to avoid damage.

He's a prime candidate. What did Poirier land, 148 shots tonight? The vast majority of them to the dome. So many fights where Gaethje has absorbed a ton of punishment.

WattMell - He destroyed his chin back in WSOF and now it's showing in the UFC. Sucks..

His chin is still good he just has no fucking head movements or evasiveness, he leaves his dome there so he can hit leg kicks. Which isn't really working in the UFC he is starting to lose

He should take 6-12 months off to let his brain heal.  Maybe fight Pettis when he returns

What evidence is there that the brain will “heal” during this 6-12 months?

His coach is pretty dumb not looking out for him. Witman said about his last loss. Gaethje was doing great until he got caught. Umm he took a fuck ton of damage in that loss just like he did in the Poirier fight. That's how he's got this far but it won't last

None. But there's evidence that you will get KTFO if you come back too soon.

His hands will be shaking while tying his shoes in another year or so at this rate.

Been saying this for a long time. He takes way way way too much damage with his style. It's rough to watch at times. He's still young too. He needs to use his wrestling more. We all love to see someone lay it all out on the feet but I've never seen someone that takes shots like him.

Dumbest fighting style there is. Guy has legit wrestling, not saying be a blanket and just wrestle but the guy needs to fight smart and use his other skills not just getting hit in the head.

Why worry about him? It is his life and his choice. He is an adult and can do what he wants. If he wants to fight like that good for him.

And will make him a lot of money... if he wins though. Which he did before his last 2 fights, and could have in either one. So not like he's outclassed but it is tougher to win at this level he's playing now. I know I will watch a card he is on!

He certainly has a CTE inducing style... but if he avoid damage in training he could be better off than you all think. But that is a big "if".

I was surprised that when he was rocked he didn't go for some wrestling, takedown or clinch, even if it simply stalls and gains him some time. He must at least do that.

he fights like an old-school Dutch Kickboxer / K-1 guy

take a look at those guys and see how the style works out long term

I've been watching since the mid 90's.

Watching Justin makes me uncomfortable. Too much heart for his own good.

I'm a huge fan but those of us that have been watching him for a few years knew that he wouldn't be able to maintain this way of fighting against the best in the world.

He has all the talent necessary to be a world champ but that style has shown to fail against the best fighters in the world that have a smarter game plan.

It's a shame but the damage he has done is already irreversable. It's not only that he's taken tons of shots, but he's so insanely tough that he's taken way more than any other human being would be able to take before losing consciousness.
