David Johnson is a freak of nature. Was very disappointing he got hurt in the first game last season.

You are shocked an NFL running back is faster than a collegiate wrestler and MMA fighter?

Umm, ok

Would you be shocked if they fought and Woodley KO’d him?

Michael Phelps beats both these boys in a freestyle race.

There's a reason that Jon Jones, with two brothers playing in the NFL, has dominated the sport.

The bigger MMA gets, the blacker it will get. There are going to be failed basketball and football players making the jump left and right. Like genuine superhumans. Someone like Tremaine Edmunds could cross over right now and be a top 10 heavyweight with just a couple years of basic training.

If you thought MMA provided you with cool superheroes, you should checkout other sports

People have been saying this for years.  How much bigger can mma get than it has been already? I think its peaked personally.   While being a good athlete is very helpful,  it's less helpful in mma than in other sports imo. More variables required to be successful in mma. It's not always the best athlete who wins.  In fact guys who are average athletes in some cases are still very successful in many circumstances.

They raced in a sprint and the NFL player tripped at the start of it (so Woodley got like a 2 second head start) then easily ran past Woodley like a father racing with his toddler

I was also shocked when Kobe and Chael played 1-on-1. Kobe totally schooled him. It was almost like Chael wasn't even in the same league!

Raw athleticism seems to be more important at HW than say at LW.

It's almost as if someone who has trained in a specific discipline has a much higher ability level than someone who hasn't. Who would have guessed?

Raw athleticism is just as important in the lighter weight classes. The difference is that major sports don't have much use for guys who are 5'8" and 155 pounds, no matter how athletic they are, so there are plenty of super-athletic guys that size in the MMA talent pool. Combat sports are one of the few places where small guys can chase their dreams of athletic fame and glory.

The NFL and NHL are a farce. If you want to hit people and run face first into each there's a sport for that. If you want to dance around those guys then learn figuring skating.

100%

this infatuation with “athleticism” (and it’s not even true athleticism, it’s just the physical qualities of strength and speed, seldom factors in mobility, flexibility, reaction, proprioception, work capacity, etc) and how important it is in MMA is a joke.

Outsidr or RJJ, it’s seldom a factor in boxing. Technical ability (which is true athleticism) is the ultimate deciding factor
