Karolina Kowalkiewicz lost to Yan Xiaonan by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26) at Saturday's UFC on ESPN+ 26. Early in the fight she suffered a facial injury, and hung truly tough; after the fight she was taken to a local hospital, and now needs surgery, which may take place in the host country Australia, or in her native Poland.
"Polish Princess' discussed the injury on her Instagram Stories.
“First in my life after fight, I cannot say I am OK,” Kowalkiewicz began, as transcribed by Mike Bohn for MMA Junkie. “In the beginning of first round, I have broken small bone. I couldn’t see nothing. My vision was double and everything was in the fog.”
“After fight, I spent all day in hospital. Today, I’m going to specialist and they make decision. I need operation. I’m waiting for the decision here, or I’ll go back to Poland and make this operation in Poland. But doctors say I have to stay here because flying with this eye is very dangerous.”
Kowalkiewicz, 34, has now lost four in a row, which is ordinarily followed by release from the UFC.
