This isn't a good sign with his history of addiction. I hope the Crippler is ok, a true warrior

It is not the UFC's fault if he is broke, it is his own fault for mismanaging his finances.

He should have the skills and notoriety to have a successful career as an MMA instructor.

I'm shocked you didn't go at zuffa/ufc for that, good job brah. Phone Post 3.0

lol, good point out.

Agreed on all accounts.

When UFC cut Okami, they kept Leben who was on like a 4 fight losing streak or something bad like that. UFC treated him more fair than they have plenty of other fighters.

How sad and rather pathetic.

That "no insurance" whining is nothing but a lame excuse for not going to see a shrink or counselor if you know you need one.

Leben could have afforded to pay cash for a counselor if it was a priority.

If he is broken and has nothing to show for the last decade, it is his own fault.  Blaming the UFC is childish sour grapes.

He can join Terrell Owens, Tyson, Dykstra and all the other broke athletes at the casino.

Hed never be able to drive a truck if he had the drug problems he says hes had.  Likely would have pissed hot and been fired.  Easy to bitch now but there were a lot of years where he made good money and saved nothing.  Still the UFC is not looking out for their fighters like they should.

He made almost a million $ over his career, not including sponsors.  If he saved soem of that, and lived frugally he'd be more than fine.

Seriously where's the loyalty? Zuffa sticks by him after he tests positive for steroids and oxy. Always gave him good favorable matchups, of the night bonuses, etc. And he's bitching because he spent hundreds of thousands on drugs, didn't pay taxes, and has no money for counseling but its the UFCs fault? No personal accountability Phone Post 3.0

This is the problem with society, no personal responsibility.

The UFC didn't leave him broke and with nothing, he did. He pursued a career as an independant contractor, he chose to make poor decisions with drugs and drinking, he spend his money how he saw fit. The UFC gave him an opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to be a professional athlete and make very good money doing so.

I feel bad for him but he shouldn't be blaming the UFC. While they could have paid him more money, they weren't the ones not paying their taxes, wasting money on drugs/booze and not planning for their future outside of fighting by investing what they did earn. That is all on him. This is a problem a lot of athletes have. They don't realize that their careers are short and that the money will stop abruptly at some point. Check out the ESPN 30 for 30 episode a while back and there are plenty of guys who made tens of millions who are in the same boat Chris is in right now for mostly the same reasons.

Leben made a REPORTED $981K in the UFC.

That doesn't count backroom deals, sponsorships, etc...

Not Mayweather money, but more than a lot of athletes are making, especially considering he was never a champion.

It's more than I made in the last 10 years working. 50k/year job and as you mentioned it doesn't count his other deals outside of the UFC.

Chris is one on my favorites, but I can honestly say that he put himself in this position and the UFC gave him more chances than he probably deserved. Phone Post 3.0

Does this suck? Yeah. Is he accountable for himself? Also yeah.

Leben was given a ton of opportunities, and unfortunately his drug abuse and poor financial choices caught up to him. I wish him the best, but this is a problem of his own making. Phone Post 3.0
