VTCO - While it's a huge marquee fight, booking it would show that the UFC is just desperate for a big fight and their entire rankings system is pointless.

Gina hasn't fought in nearly 5 years and went out on an L. How is that deserving of a title shot?

This is the same company that booked both Nick Diaz and Chael Sonnen in title matches last year, both coming off of losses.

Well, we already know the rankings system is worthless, but what it shows is that WMMA is so shallow that they literally don't even have 1 person on their roster for the champ to fight and the entire division is really only about 1 person.

If Ronda decided to retire, I could see them scrapping it altogether.
This is the only logical explanation. Other than Cyborg, there's really nothing else to market. Phone Post 3.0

I think you can market Zingano and Alexis Davis, but it has to be done in the right way.

A fight between Rousey and Davis should take place in Canada.

Yeah a Davis fight would sell in Canada.

Dreamer - No way it could be at 135 though? Didnt Gina struggle enough making 145?

My guess is that Ronda would break her "only fighting at 135" rule for Gina. She respects her enough to, hopefully, be willing to take a catchweight super fight.

If it does happen, this fight would be so incredibly similar to the Hughes vs Gracie fight in more ways than one...
So they'd do a catch weight fight for Gina but not Cyborg? That makes no no sense. No way this is happening. Phone Post 3.0

gabemadrid - It's not just about WMMA. The other divisions are also hurting with lackluster stars. You guys think aldo/mendes will be a huge hit? No one I know even cares about aldo. This isn't the make fights that .02 percent of the population want to see. This is the fight business. It's a business. Oh and Bellatorfan I wouldn't talk you guys almost had Tito vs rampage and that was purely for the name recognition. Phone Post 3.0

Not have stars to fight the champ is one thing, but at least at 145, you have Mendes and Cub who are on 5 fight win streaks and have proven they are very worthy of a title shot. If they book Carano/Rousey, sure it would be fun but it's saying they have no one else for Ronda to fight.

True, and those pairings were also ridiculous, but it's not anywhere near the level of being gifted a title shot following a 5 year hiatus.

Is Cat not going to be ready for a summer or fall fight? How about Davis? Holly Holm, Cyborg....

Dave clearly just making things up or worse, UFC getting so desperate for some attention on their cards, or at least cards that have their PPV monster Rousey on them, that they're releasing fake news.

As much as i love Gina she would struggle to make 145lb let alone 135lb, although weigh-in's would be hot as hell again (thank you Gina's dad for one of the best weigh-in moments ever). Add to that she hasn't fought or even trained properly for so long. On top of that, she's got films she's shooting.

And in the best case scenario where a fight is possible, why on earth would Gina accept a fight like this? It makes zero sense for her as takedowns/ground game has always been her weakness, it'd take less than a minute for Rousey to win with ease.

Zingano would probably do better, but Davis in Canada would be successful. Put Rory and Kaufman on the card and I'm sure it would do some good numbers.

I guess what I meant to say was "as marketabke" Phone Post 3.0

Ronda can't sell over 300K PPV buys.

Who believes Gina is a "star"?

Gina drew on CBS out of novelty plus with Kimbo Slice's novelty to help.

The UFC needs Lesnar back to face Reem in a rematch for July.

That, or Lesnar vs Mir III if coupled with a welterweight title fight could pop a buy rate. Phone Post 3.0

nobones - Proof Rousey ducking Cyborg because Gina can't make 135 lbs. for anything. Phone Post 3.0

Yep, this dubious report that will probably never happen is proof.

If they book this at a catch weight or 145 there is no doubt Ronda is ducking cyborg.

However I truly doubt this is even being seriously talked about Phone Post 3.0

Anderson P Sonnen - Awesome, but makes absolutely no sense at this point imo. Phone Post 3.0

It make perfect sense for what the UFC is looking for for International Fight Week. A marketable fight they can make money with. Like Meltzer said, this fight would have no trouble getting press and selling tickets.
Yeah I know that it makes sense from a business perspective. I'm talking about relevance. Gina hasn't fought in years and they want her first fight back to be Rousey? That doesn't make sense. Phone Post 3.0

It would be such a mismatch that Ronda would destroy Gina in said bikini fight in about ten seconds.
