When are these guys going to learn? unless you genuinely do have a size disadvantage issue then cutting is not going to do a damn thing for you.

Palhares never lost a fight at 185 because of his height or weight or lack of strength. Those loses were almost all mental lapses, poor game plans or just getting KO'd. As a matter of fact, the last guy to KO him was Hector who is now at 170 too. So we can now see them fight again but smaller and dehydrated. I bet it will be a different result!

Nate Marquardt experienced the same thing. Cut to 170, win a fight then get leg kicked to a lose and then get KTFO by Ellenberger.

It is only a handful of guys who have had great success when going down in weight later in their careers. Maia is one and, quite frankly, he was losing at 185 because he abandoned his grappling in favor of his extremely poor stand-up game...

Palhares is just a huge guy, he looks shredded and strong at 170, wonder whether he'll be able to overpower guys at this weight. Phone Post

Well said. I would add that the speed equation changes. I fighter that drops a weight class often struggles going from being fast at the previous weight to being comparatively slow at the lower weight. That speed adjustment significantly impact certain styles.

I wish he were fighting someone other than Pierce, I was really excited to see him test the waters at 170 but Pierce might be too much for him in his first bout. Would love to see him do well in this division though.
