Altitude was indeed a factor. It was a freak circumstance that managed to make Werdum the HW champ not to take away his amazing ground game but a decent striker with a neutralizing wrestling game is his kryptonite.

Idk, I'm a Cain fan but he got outstruck plain and simple. I think him not getting acclimated and conditioned did play a small part, but not to that extent. Cain looked smaller and I think the combination of reach disadvantage and an inability to be able to shoot a TD did him in. Homeboy underestimated and paid.

Altitude was a factor, for sure... cain was fucking retarded for going out 2 weeks prior at 7k elevation. He also got outstuck by werdum.

Absolute bullshit, werdum won plain and simple. He was the better fighter on the night

Actually I think it was post USADA and Cain couldn't use his EPO while getting outstruck and submitted

Werdum is turning 41. And he was 38 when he beat prime Cain.

I thought Cain won the first round. He had a high input and was tagging/kicking Werdum a lot. Came out in the 2nd completely gassed got his ass kicked and was dear meat by the 3rd.

People overrate the altitude. Cane is a cardio monster he was getting beat to the punch by a longer Werdum, and just got beat down. No disgrace both guys are top fighters.

People UNDERRATE the altitude. I moved to the mountains of Colorado and I lived 9000 feet above sea level.  It takes a good month to walk up a flight of stairs without gasping for air

If ANYTHING says a win almost 3 years ago against a 6'2 wrestlier is a fluke, it's losing to a 6'7 Russian in 2018.

Cain attempted to wear Werdum down like JDS but Werdum has no problem being taken down so he would just hold onto the thai plum and do damage.

this. clearly there are a lot of little manlets here who don't understand how the altitude affects true man-sized men

anyhow, i think cain v. werdum makes a lot of sense right now

Apparently a decent striker with a shit wrestling game is Werdum's kryptonite because Werdum had little problem taking Volkov down.  Cain needs to work on being taken down more.

Werdum is a horrendous match up for Cain. Reasonable on the feet and zero fear on the ground. Cain couldn't use his wrestling as a backup to mask his basic striking and he has always been taggable since the Kongo fight.

Werdum is also well past his peak.

was Werdum fighting at 3000 altitude then? because from what i remember Cain is the cardio king and got his ass whooped by Werdum in all aspects. Both at 9000 altitude.

Sad MMA fighters lose and you really start to see how fickle fans are and how much they'll try to discredit fighters after they lose

Werdum didn't look like he was moving right and gassed. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a injury or sickness that came up stopping him from preparing for the fight.   Maybe he just peaked past his age and is declining, but definitely not the same Werdum from past fights.

His standup looked off and he had lots of chances to pass guard and just didn't commit.  Something was wierd.

A 40 year old veteran losing to a 29 year old young lion is not a huge shock

Yep, looked very flat. Could be age or maybe he got the better of a greener volkov in previous training and took it lightly.
