I been training Jiu Jitsu for almost 12 years. I am a black belt under Matt and nick Serra.this is the first time in almost 12 years I been off for 5 months of training.I fell off a ladder on march 21 and now I have 5 bulging disc in my lower back. I been going to doctors the whole time and nothing takes the pain away. I am starting to go crazy without training. Its a huge part of my life. If anyone has anything that helped them get through something like this please tell me what you did that helped you. Thank you

Too loosen the muscles in the lower back you can do static hamstring stretches for 10 minutes, this will give some temporary relief. Acupuncture has a high success rate in back pain. Tramadol worked great for my back pain (but coming off it can be a bitch, serotonin...). Good luck dude. Phone Post

Find a good Osteopath. I can recco one in Manhattan.

Core work, yoga 3x a week (it really works, even if you just do it at home), sleep with a pillow between your knees

Don`t let a major back injury stop you from training bro. It`s imperative that you continue to train & impress the forum.

i second the stretching/yoga, foam roller and core work.

i have pretty severe arthritis in both hips (i know, i ain't my back). a stretching routine, core work and foam roller keep me pain free.

all 3 are free, and good to do anyway....give a shot

Cold Showers....  you can thank me after you've done it 10 days in a row.  You'll never go back to hot, you'll never get sick, you're back pain will clear up and you'll feel like superman.

look up something called foundation training. it's pretty interesting. the guy in charge had severe back pain from degenerative discs. he developed this program to help fix himself.

Been 3 months for me.

I just bought the "Fix My Back Pain" program from criticalbench.com for $20. Chiro/ART didnt help, PT with traction also no dice, even after cortisone injection.

I'm going to give this program a try for a month, hopefully see enough improvement to at least begin using weights again, but sciatica is so bad that avoiding flexion seems to almost totally rule out a return to BJJ unless back at 100%.

I think I'll take up boxing if I don't markedly improve. Phone Post 3.0

Nerve pain is a bitch. Had a very bad outbreak of the shingles 6 weeks ago. We're not certain that some of the pain isn't permanent. None of the regular remedies for muscle or joint pain do anything productive.

I wouldn't wish this shit on anyone. Phone Post

Just a little sniff of Heroin will take care of the worst of pains. Just go around the corner of 8th and Washington between 10-3am and ask for Hector. Phone Post 3.0

I suffer the same as most who've posted- got real curious at the mention of tramadol, I've been using it for a year now- and saw the link to Foundation Training.

Thanks OP!
