UnderGround Forums Why did Bisping never fight Silva for the belt?

So, I'm just wondering what the UG thinks is the reason that Bisping never got a shot at the 185 belt when Silva was the champ?

Bisping is 25 and 6 with his 6 losses being 4 by decision and 2 by t/ko.

Clearly a guy brewed and prepped to be in the UFC from his time on TUF and having 21 of 31 fights under the UFC banner. He's their UK face of the promotion, althought Connor McGregor is fast coming on that, and has close to a decade of time in the UFC.

So why did they never give him a shot at Silva and do you think he will ever get a title shot at the middleweight strap?

because he never one-shot KO'd a guy. The bosses are clear - they like guys who war and guys who finish in exciting fashion. Add that to the fact that Mike doesn't seem like a good ass-kisser and you have your answer.

If the UFC bosses were running the NFL, if you have too many 13-10 victories during the season you don't even get close to the Super Bowl regardless of record.

Bisping looks amazing against B level guys. Against the top guys he's always come up short.

If he beat sonnen or Henderson he would have. He got very close a few times but never won a #1 contender fight. I would have loved to see him fight silva though, that would have been a great fight imo. Phone Post 3.0

Timing I guess, he must have been coming off a loss at the worst time possible, I'm just thinking how Okami was a better choice than Bisping and I'm sure it's record and Okami had a big regional demographic to bring to the table, so Okami wins that one.

6 losses, 4 decisions, 1 tko, 1 death.

My apologies. You are correct. I should have used something else to describe that section of Europe.

Gulping the LayNBaderade - Hate to be a dick, but what a stupid question (unless you are completely new to MMA)

Well I was looking for opinions other than my own on why it never happened.

But yes, I just started watching MMA this spring. I'm a total newbie!

This is the cycle of Bisping:

Fight a "name" but not a top guy.  Beat him in convincing fashion.  Miller, Le, etc.

Get a Top 10 guy, even possibly a title fight elimination fight.  Get beat in this fight.  Sonnen, Henderson, etc.

A couple fights have thrown him off the path (Kennedy for example) but this is essentially his career.

The UFC will now probably time his next fight against a big name Top 10 contender to be in the UK somewhere.

Wash.............rinse............repeat.

He just always lost the big fight. Now the MW division is tougher then ever and I don't see him getting a shot now as I think he loses to Vitor, Machida, Souza, Silva. He has a chance against Rockhold but will be a tough fight.

Rockhold is a tougher matchup than Vitor is post TRT.  Luke SMASHES Bisping IMO.
