you're more athletic Georges!

"I don't have the wrestling of Chael Sonnen"

you have better wrestling Georges!

Yeah, this is true too though. He doesnt have the KO power and accuracy mentioned but he arguably has more in those area than those 2. Id say his wrestling is better than Chael, athleticism is at least on par with Jones. Remember though, Jones now is like the GSP against Hughes, Trigg, Sherk.
GSP isn't a better wrestler than Chael Sonnen. He's a better striker and smarter.

Easy to think he is the better wrestler though, if you don't recognise the reasons why it looks that way.

GSP was completely correct in what he said. Phone Post

Its actually easier to stick to the pure and isolated views and ignore the MMA context and more importantly, the bottom line: GSP is a better wrestler in MMA than Chael Sonnen. GSP can and has put everyone on their backs and does so continuously thru fights. We just saw Chael unable to take down his last opponent after the first round. The reasons why are irrelevant to the bottom line.

I dont think people are really asking him to knock or finish people... they just want to stop paying to watch his sparring sessions.  He performed beautifully in the condit fight and there was no finish.

People arent demanding that you finish... they just want you to try.

This seems to be a problem with zahabi and his tristar gym... in general his fighters look like they're in a sparring session instead of a fight.  It looks like they are trying to make it a sparring session instead of a fight.

When GSP was trying to pass Condit's guard, he wasnt trying to get closer to a submission and thus trying to finish the fight?

Great quote.

I liked this one as well (In regards to Anderson)...

"I will fight anyone at 170. Maybe the UFC can work some magic."

Goderson Silva - "I don't care about the critics and what they say," said St-Pierre, who has a long history of caring very much what his critics say, at Saturday night's post-fight press conference. "I gave everything I had tonight. I am who I am. I use my body the best that I can. I don't have the knockout power of a 'Rampage' Jackson or the athletic ability of a Jon Jones or the accuracy of an Anderson Silva or the wrestling of a Chael Sonnen. But I use my body, the tools that I have, the best that I can and it's why I win fights."

That's pretty cool, but I think he is more athletic than Jones and a better wrestler than Sonnen.

Fuck yeah.

Gained a LOT of respect for GSP for this fight, he was agressive, he put himself in danger, he brought the fucking fight to Carlos Condit.

I have been a huge critic of GSPs performances his last few fights but his fight with Condit brought back everything I used to love about GSP as a fighter. I hope he continues to fight with the same fire as this past Saturday night because there are few things scarier than a motivated GSP

buckshot44 - Look at the damage he took! When was the last time we saw GSP beat up so badly?

His first fight with BJ is the only time he has been that beat up in the octagon before, or even in any of his pre-UFC fights.

First round BJ punched him in the eye and shortly after that he broke his nose with an uppercut. GSP said later that his vision was blurry for the rest of the round while BJ beat him up. His vision cleared up in between rounds and then he took rounds two and three to win that fight.

He was quite a mess after that fight too. The Condit fight wasn't the first time GSP showed he had the heart of a champion.

Maia took down Sonnen, can't see that ever happening to GSP. Way better MMA wrestling IMO. Phone Post

I think it is fantastic that he said those things. With a attitude like that, he will continuously improve. If you think you are already the best, little or no motivation.

Yes, in MMA, GSP's wrestling is the best.

GSP is as athletic as Jon Jones.

The only area he really lacks is 1 hit KO power. However, he has good power in his hands, he can definitely hurt his opponents.

Internet -  I don't agree that this shows 'doubt' or some kind of mental block in George that's holding him back. I see it as a sign of a fighter who's had a lot of time to think.

You can tell he has taken time in the last year to really analyse himself. Just from his speech you can tell he places greater emphasis on the power of the mind and the difference it can make.

It speaks of a fighter who has tried in earnest to objectively view himself - and he's come to the conclusion that, yeah, maybe he's not the best at x, y and z, but he has tools that can't be so easily identified; and these tools make him the champ. And the very fact that he has recognised his limitations speaks of a mature mind; not necessarily of one that is doubting his abilities.

He's giving off the 'wise warrior' vibe imo, not insecurity.

Just my .02 Phone Post

I agree with this.

And if you go around thinking you're the best at everything you won't have the motivation to go through the grueling sessions to get better and be your absolute best.

I think he uses these "facts" as motivation to grow.

There are fighters who think they're the best ever and that hasn't seemed to make them fulfill their potential. On the contrary a stagnation has been the result.

He's an extremely smart fighter.

I have always been a huge Matt Hughes fan, but GSP's win over Condit finally made me accept that GSP is the best WW  in MMA history to date and its because of one thing, he came back from adversity against a GREAT OPPONENT and won in dominant fashion.
