I've got 2...

I got to have dinner with Randy Couture on the eve of his first fight against Chuck Lidell (in which Randy won) and it was great. This was before the sport was huge so not that many people knew who he was.

One interesting thing about that was when we were walking through the Hard Rock, Vitor Belfort game up to Randy and was asking him for advice. He was actually kind of shy and unsure about going up to Randy but Randy gave him some nice tips right there in the hallway of the Hard Rock. Was pretty cool, not very many people knew who these guys were.

The second was just last week. I got to meet Nate Diaz at the Open Workouts when he was done. Walking through the hals, he was very friendly and taking pictures with anyone who wanted etc. Awesome dude.

I have too many to write them all.  All I can say is that every fighter I've ever met, hung out with, or have been fortunate enough to become friends with have all been amazing.  MMA fighters are probably the most humble proffessional athletes today and their interaction with fans is unbelievable.

CMONNN Vixen...share at least one funny or interesting one please? Then Ill tell you about the time I met Arianny at a Panda Express and her Ex-boyfriend nearly kickd my ass for asking him to take a pic of us togther...Ya...that one that beat her up in Vegas over the summer...

FRAT (but you asked for it)

Is that true about Arianny?  That's funny.

Okay, I thought this was kind of funny.  My friend and I were outside some UFC event (don't remember which one) and Chuck Liddell was in a black SUV and he drove by us.  I screamed "Chuck" and next thing I know the black car stops and he ran towards us and was like "Hey".  So we took a picture with him and then he had to be somewhere so he ran, really fast all the way back to the car he was in. It was pretty funny to see Chuck running through traffic.  There were UFC fans in cars looking at him and yelling his name. He's a standup guy, for sure. BTW: The pic came out kind of blurry, not one of my best ones.

For some reason, this one sticks in my mind, too.  I was backstage at the UFC Expo and I was talking to Junior (I have the pic, I've posted it before) and he was the sweetest guy ever.  All of a sudden, I look next to me and Shane Carwin is seated on the other side of me.  So, I am in between them and I am thinking "holy shit, I am in between Carwin and Junior."  The funny thing is they had already fought.  And I ended up teaching Junior some Spanish.  He was really good.

Oh, and memorable.  I was having a really hard time this past August.  A lot of crap was going on in my personal life and Chael called me the minute the clock turned midnight on my birthday.  That was an awesome thing to do and shows you he's an amazing person.

I have a lot of other good ones but I'll save those for when I know you better.

Vixen thats an awesome few stories you told. I got to meet JDS during the 09 expo like 4 times. Some reason, I kept bumping into him all over the place...The fighters seemed to like the T-Shirt that I was wearing at the time (epsecially the Brasilian fighters) for the message I had written on it in portuguese. I kept thinking in my head that JDS was such as class act and nice guy. That was long before the fame. Met him again last July or June (before the Mir fight) and guess what? NOTHING HAS CHANGED. He seems like the same exact nice guy that I met when nobody knew his name. Him saying whats up in the restroom while we were both taking a piss kinda caught me off guard hahaha

Junior is one of the nicest men I've ever met, period.  I said to him "Oh you have a ton of fans in Miami." And he goes "really, so you think that non-Brazilains root for me?"  And I was like "Junior, you have no idea.  Everyone loves you."   It took me aback that he doesn't know how loved he is.

Oh, and I have another funny one.  I was in the elevator in Vegas wearing a Hendo shirt and Bisping and his son got in.  His little boy was staring at my shirt.  I thought to myself "All I need is someone to come in and say soemthing about the Bisping/Hendo and this will be really embarrassing."  Well. sure as rain a guy comes in to the elevator and is like "Damn, I love Hendo,  Man, when he knocked out Bisping, that was staright up insane."  And I'm thinking "You jerk, he's next to us" The elevator was packed ad he didn't notice."  Bisping was grinning.  He was a good sport.

Fedor was very quiet, very low key. Before and after his exhibition bout with Mousasi, he pretty much sat by himself in the venue's basement (which doubled as the dressing room). He seemed so hesitant to mingle that I felt terrible asking him for a picture, so I didn't. So I was surprised when he showed up at the restaurant with his translator.

He left the restaurant solo to head back to his room and I left a couple of seconds after him, so I was following him to the elevator, through the hotel lobby and shit just thinking "holy shit nobody knows who this is or what he's capable of".

Hahaha! AWWWESSOOMMME!

Hell yes it TRUE! I was doing some military business in Barstow California. Its a shit hole town between LA in Vegas but tons of people stop there because its pretty much that last place you can take a piss or eat before getting to either city. This was last December. I see a white Range Rover pull into the parking lot of the Panda Express...This was some hilarious shit and Ill tell you why...a few weeks prior, I had seen some bullshit story on the UG about how Ariany just bought a new Range. Im thinking...who the HELL cares? Why is this on the UG? Well...sure enough, Im in panda express and guess who jumps out of the truck? Ariany out the passenger side, and what I thought was a hispanic guy (looked like a shitty used car salesman out the front) They get inside and I look at Arianny and she looks at me with that kind of look you give someone when you know they know who you are. I was like Arianny I didn't think you eat this garbage, you're gona get a belly like me (as i rubbed my tummy like roy nelson). She laughed, but her papi chulo was seriuosly not amused. He looked at me like I just gave his cat a bath. So anyways, I asked her if she would take a pic (which i thought was nice because she had ZERO makeup on and her image is her lifeline). I tried to pass teh dude my blackberry and he just stared at me. So I said "hey man would you mind to take a pic?" She looked at him...he rolled his eyes at her...and took my phone and snapped the pic...fucking awesome :)  Find out a few months later he likes to practice his Gangnam Style Karate on 110 pound women...

That is a great story.  And yeah, isn't that the guy she got arrested for hitting? LOL

I didn't meet her.  I was in the elevator after UFC 148 MGM Grand and she and Brittany were in there with us.  I just thought to myself  "wow, they're really short." But brittany's body looked really good.

Yes, thats the guy. But I met her in December of last year, long before the Hotel Kung Fun practice incident they had. She was really nice which I am sure is hard for a person in her status because you get a lot of creepers  n shit like that. The guy was seriuosly not happy with me for asking for a pic and I mean, who can blame him? Here he is...wining and dining a beautiful, successful young woman in and upscale classy joint like the Panda Express...driving her around in her brand new Range...and some little Puerto Rican bastard in an Irish newsboy hat tries to come along and steal his lady. I deserved his icy glares indeed.

Brittney I met at UFC ummm whatever the last one in Philadelphia was like a week after I got back from Afghanistan. She was there with Rumble Johnson signing autos right before the event. I remember her being gorgeous in person, although she was in normal clothes and not made up much at all. When I saw Rumble i was like Jesus H. Christ how in the hell does this guy fight at 170 or 185 or 1-ANYTHING? He was huge. He took a pic with my little bro who is 12..when we walked off my bro said "man i cant believe I met Rampage!" Much to learn that one...much to learn.

Ran into a sharply-dressed Matt Riddle at UFC 113 in Montreal. He was standing at the beer counter and offered to let me and my buddy in front of him. At the time, we didn't know who he was since we didn't watch tuf but we started talking and joking around with him and his buddy. It wasn't until much later in the conversation that he told us he was a UFC fighter. We thought he was bullshitting us so he proceeded to take out his wallet and pull out a ufc collector's card with him on it. We ended up exchanging numbers and paying him and his buddy a beer. Super cool dude. Phone Post

Awesome, awesome stories.  I've met Rumble in person and he is beyond huge.  How he ever even attempted to make 170 is beyond me.

I remember talking to Charlie Brenneman and we were laughing because he said that when he went into the Octagon with Rumble he was like "Oh my god, this guy is a monster.  This isn't fair." LOL

I guess im an asshole because I would have totally asked him for a pic. id probably piss myself if I were walking down the street seeing a guy in a canadian tuxedo (denim head to toe) and when he got closer noticing "holy hell thats Fedor" Don't know if Ill ever get the chance to meet the guy but I sure do hope so. Im not flying alll the way to Story Oskol to do it though.

UFC 84.

My wife and I flew to Vegas to see Wanderlei and BJ.

Still IMO the most talented card to date. BJ, Sherk, Wanderlei, Thiago Silva, Tito, Machida and Carwins debut.

Anways after the BJ fight me and my wife are lounging around the excalibur when I notice Regan, Troy, and Rudy about 10 feet from me.

I had taken a seminar with BJ and Regan about 2 years prior when they came to Toronto so I went up and introduced myself to Regan, told him I was fighting amatuer, we flew from TO to watch his brother and wanderlei fight and that I attended their seminar when they came to TO.

Instantly lets his guard down and he starts showing me some stuff BJ was working on in training and somehow we end up play wrestling right on the casino floor.

We probably had both had a little too much to drink and while we were wrestling my wife is looking around to make sure security isnt going to come and tackle us!

My wife then forces me to hold her drink while she snaps a pick!

Another time me and my buddy ate dinner with carlos newton and Hendo at a freedom fight event in Montreal.

My buddy is good friends with one of Carlos's training partners.

That was right after Hendo won the WW GP in pride.

Carlos is a very intelligent dude and throughout dinner we didnt talk fighting once.

Deuce77 - Toyota Center Houston: I was wearing a football jersey and approached Renzo Gracie. He said something like, "oh, football player I take you down" and proceeded to pretend to take me down. Cool shit.

That same night I saw Stitch Duran in the hallway of the hotel and he said something like, "man, I've seen alot of scary guys but you look really scary." I used to be a fucking loser thug when I was younger and although I've changed, the look hasn't.

Bro, didn't you find that Renzo was like one of the coolest guys you've ever met? A few months ago was at the BJJ expo in Long Beach and met Renzo there. I explained to him that I had a brother who was a huge fan of his. My bro is in the Army too stationed in GA. I told him that my bro is brand new to the army and has been really depressed and homesick. I asked Renzo if I could record him on my phone saying a personal message to my brother Jerry...to which Renzo said "HELL YAA!" So I taped him for like 20 seconds telling my brother to keep his chin up and stay motivated. Sent my brother the video and he nearly shit himself! One of my favorite encounters.

Really fucking cool guy.

Joe Lauzon was cornering one of his guys in Montreal - I think I was taking pictures for the event, I forget which one (I have a terrible memory, can't remember what I had for lunch) - and I see him entering the venue with his team.

"Hey Creepy Joe!" I say, kind of not very loudly, cause I don't like bothering people (or being seen).  he goes "what ?" and I think  it wasn't even obvious that it was me who said it, so I said nothing.

there was muttering within his team, and we went through different doors.

See Vixen? Ive got a ton more as Im sure you do as well. Mine always seem to end up a little bit weird or off, but I can assure you, I tell no lies. Thanks for sharing too! I hope you are willing to share a few more once I get to know you better

Melendez -your stories are awesome.  I am sitting here laughing at the way you tell them.  If you have more, please share.

Oh, I have another one.  I was talking to Hector Lombard after a UFC event.  He and I have friends in common and we're obviously both Cuban.  Well, I think he's an extremely nice guy.  We were standing tehre talking and this d-bag bumps into him.  The guy looked like "The Situation."  And Hecotr just kinda shrugged it off.  And it was one of those where I was thinking "this guy could kill you, badly."

I used to have that pic with hector as my profile pic so I think a lot of people have seen it.  If anyone wants to see it, let me know.

Carlos is a very intelligent dude and throughout dinner we didnt talk fighting once.

thats really cool! I have never had the chance to meet Hendo. He was actually supposed to be at teh UFC expo this July but for some reason, he didn't end up showing up. He was on the schedule but I dont know what happened with that one.

BJJ on the hotel with one of the Penn brothers...haha you just can't make shit like that up...i mean, you could, but why would you.

Thnaks for the post man.

Hendo is an awesome guy!

Have met him a few times now and once I saw him come around from the signing table and take a pic mimicking the bisping KO.

Very cool guy and actually fairly small in person!

Regan and was awesome!

You called him Creepy Joe to his face? Phone Post

Buddy/co-worker of mine started the "Ground 'N Pound" t-shirt company approximately forever ago and ended up meeting a ton of fighters in the process. He said Hendo was the nicest and Tim Sylvia was the biggest jerk.

No problemo...

A while back I was in Vegas with my Ex Girlfriend. Stitch Duran walks up to her and says "hey where the hell have you been? Ive been looking all over for you. I called you...you cant pick up? Im really busy you were supposed to meet me and you were there. What happened?" I look at my ex...my ex looks at me...we both look at Stitch. She then says "excuse me but I dont even know who you are...Stitch looks at us both puzzled and then starts turning red in teh face. He looks closer at my ex (im assuming his eyesight is shit...which would be very odd considering his profession) and then starts apologizing over and over. He explained that he thought my ex was his niece and that he has been looking everywhere for her and cant find her. He was totallllly embarrassed. And here I thought that my ex had been creeping around Vegas after hours with Jacob Stitch Duran :)
