Some were sealed and all but signed and delivered. Some were virtual locks. And still others were very much on the fence. But following Saturday's Strikeforce finale, the UFC continued to make official some of the names who will be making the migration from a now-defunct promotion to the world's leading MMA organization. Officials on Tuesday's edition of "UFC Tonight" on FUEL TV announced a big list of the fighters who now have homes in the UFC. The list, of course, includes champions, former champions and former title challengers. Daniel Cormier and Gilbert Melendez already had been announced for fights at UFC on FOX 7. Joining them in the UFC will be middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and new welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine, who on Saturday upset Nate Marquardt in the last fight in Strikeforce history. Marquardt, a longtime UFC fighter who was released by the company in June 2011, also will be coming over. Other notables include many fighters from Saturday's card. Former light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will move over, as will former middleweight champ Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and recent middleweight title challenger Tim Kennedy. All three picked up wins at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City in the finale. Also expected to make their UFC debuts later this year will be Saturday winners Roger Gracie, Pat Healy, Adriano Martins and Ryan Couture. Couture will make history as the first father-son combination in UFC history. His father, Randy, is a member of the UFC Hall of Fame. And despite losses on Saturday, K.J. Noons and Kurt Holobaugh will fight in the UFC. Notable names not yet announced by the UFC as coming over include heavyweight Josh Barnett (32-6 MMA, 3-1 SF), who has had a contentious past with the promotion and President Dana White. Barnett on Saturday made easy work of Nandor Guelmino (11-4-1 MMA, 0-1 SF) on the main card. Some of Saturday's losing fighters who were not named as fighters making the transition including Guelmino, Dion Staring (28-8 MMA, 0-1 SF), Mike Kyle (19-9-1 MMA, 3-4-1 SF), Anthony Smith (17-9 MMA, 2-2 SF), Trevor Smith (10-3 MMA, 2-2 SF), Jorge Gurgel (14-9 MMA, 2-4 SF) and Michael Bravo (7-4 MMA, 0-1 SF). And opening fight winner Estevan Payan (14-3 MMA, 2-0 SF) also was not part of Tuesday's announcement. Tuesday's full list of UFC announcements for former Strikeforce fighters coming to the UFC includes: HEAVYWEIGHT • Daniel Cormier (11-0 MMA, 8-0 SF) LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT • Gegard Mousasi (33-3-2 MMA, 4-1-1 SF) • Gian Villante (10-3 MMA, 3-2 SF) MIDDLEWEIGHT • Roger Gracie (6-1 MMA, 4-1 SF) • Tim Kennedy (15-4 MMA, 6-2 SF) • Lorenz Larkin (13-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) • Champ Luke Rockhold (10-1 MMA, 9-0 SF) • Ronaldo Souza (17-3 MMA, 7-1 SF) WELTERWEIGHT • Roger Bowling (11-3 MMA, 4-3 SF) • Jason High (16-3 MMA, 3-0 SF, 0-1 UFC) • Nate Marquardt (32-11-2 MMA, 1-1 SF, 10-4 UFC) • Champ Tarec Saffiedine (14-3 MMA, 6-1 SF) • Bobby Voelker (24-8 MMA, 4-1 SF) LIGHTWEIGHT • Ryan Couture (6-1 MMA, 6-1 SF) • Pat Healy (29-16 MMA, 7-1 SF, 0-1 UFC) • Kurt Holobaugh (8-1 MMA, 0-1 SF) • Adriano Martins (24-6 MMA, 1-0 SF) • Champ Gilbert Melendez (21-2 MMA, 11-1 SF) • K.J. "Bobby Voelker (24-8 MMA, 4-1 SF) LIGHTWEIGHT" Voelker's a welterweight, fighting Cote at UFC 158.
There's a few names missing that I'd like to see make the jump. One that sticks out the most is OSP. |

FedorEmilioEstevez - Feijao? I'm guessing until he and Cyborg can get their licenses renewed, they're staying out of the conversation. |

Pancake Syrup - Was expecting more fighters Same here, but when you look at Strikeforce's roster, there ain't many to choose from. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_Strikeforce_fighters Keep in mind, a few of them already have announced bouts (ex. Robbie Lawler vs. Josh Koscheck). |
