Fair stoppage. Given who it was that was smashing unanswered fists on his head. Lawyer can do some permanent damage. I like kos but he would've been hurt in another 3 seconds. IMO Phone Post

I don't *think* Kos was coming back from that or going to recover his faculties. Robbie was going to hit him 2, 3, 4 more times for nothing in the next couple seconds.

One-one-thousand (bam, bam), two-one-thousand (bam, bam)...

Then....

"Why didn't Herb jump in faster and save Koscheck? That's the refs job to protect the fighter. What was Dean thinking?!? Stupid ref. Someone is going to get killed."

I don't like Kos, but I don't want to see a fighter get injured. Hurt, bleeding, or KO'd...yes. Injured no.

If I was the ref, I wouldn't wanna be responsible for Robbie landing more bombs either.

Fair stoppage imo. Could have waited a couple more seconds perhaps, but if Kos didn't want it stopped he should have defended better. He was rocked.

I believe Herb looked at it more like "This is Robbie Lawler, I don't want some serious damage done here."

Lawler has some fucking insane power and its pretty clear its translated well back at 170. I believe it was a perfectly fine stoppage as Koscheck wasn't exactly defending and a few more shots and I believe he would have gone limp anyway, Herb simply stopped Koscheck from taking some really unnecessary damage.

No way that was early - especially with Lawler being the guy raining down leather. Some of his KO's have been the nastiest in the game, dude's got atom bombs for fists

Well I guess it depends on a couple of things.

Do we stop the fight because he wasn't going to be able to get out of that position (assumption)? Should Brock been saved by the ref against Carwin? Sure the ref could have stopped it and it would have been justified. But we sawa how that went.

Is there much difference when a fighter is getting constantly hit clean on the feet by a guy like Lawler? Should those fights be stopped too? If so, how many shots before stopping it?

My point is the argument of he would be finished anyway or he was getting hit clean by a power puncher is not a valid argument for claiming Fighter Saftey comes first. A war like Shogun and Hendo or the Grice fight earlier in the night are far worse for fighters long term health than the Kos/Lawler fight or Liddel/Jackson fights. We applaud one and think they are great but are appalled by wanting a fighter to be allowed a chance to recover because we THINK it would be dangerous to let them go a little bit more.

Some stoppages are warranted and some are early. This one was a little early. These guys know the risks and I am sure any fighter in Kos situation (he was recovering and was not wobbly when he got up would like the benefit of the doubt he would have survived the situation.

Im not outraged by any means but I think it was a little early. It looked worse after the second shot than it did when it was stopped. Kos seemed fine when he stood up. Im sure we can all agree with that. Phone Post

Solid post - VTFU.

I think the difference between a guy getting tagged standing up and a guy getting tagged on the ground is the fact that guys getting tagged with those shots on the ground are usually getting their head dribbled on the mat like a basketball. When you hear of street fights where people receive severe brain trauma or worse, even die - it's usually the impact of the head hitting the ground that causes all the damage, not the strikes from the other party. The way I see it, Lawler dribbling Kos' head 3 times off the mat is enough to stop the fight.

At what point? Not when it was stopped. I think he went out with the first or second (flash ko) but was recovering and more than coherent enough to keep going.

Like I said, he was fine when he stood up and he appeared more than capable of continuing. Now im not at all saying Lawler wouldn't have put him out with 2-3 more but a lot can happen in 1-2 seconds. Hence why I said im not outraged but think it was a little early.

Its ok to think it was a good stoppage. I don't have a problem with that. I personally think it was early. Mostly because he was moving right before and was immediately up and had his legs. Phone Post

Herb misdirected the probable kill shot when he stepped in. Kos' head was bouncing off the mat while Robbie was playing the bongos. Phone Post

Liddel didn't spring up and wasn't there right after it was over.

I think it was ok stoppage but would have been ok giving chuck a couple seconds to see what he does.

My justification is the logic is guys get rocked equally standing and get time. I grasp the floor impact and bounce effect but how much different is the whiplash that comes from your head whipping back after flush shots. These guys know the risks of combat sports. Theres a line that not many agree on when its a close call. Phone Post

I think Kos stop was early.  I didn't see him "out" at any point.  He was hurt and stuck in a bad spot but still coherent, should have been given a chance to recover or at least eat a few more shots.

I don't really see the parallel with Liddell-Rampage 2.  Liddell was clearly out even if it was a flash KO.

I'd compare it more to Couture-Liddell 1, which was a bit of a premature stoppage also IMO but not as bad as Kos-Lawler.
