I'm down in Austin this weekend livin' the dream. Today was an M3 meet-up (at which an AMG SLK and an STI both participated). As I mentioned on a previous thread I was lent a 2004 TiAG modded all to hell with mid-400 bhp. The lender drove the AMG. Let me say....goddamn. This much power takes a slow break-in (in my opinion). You don't just leap from the <100 bhp club to the mid-4's and you ESPECIALLY don't leap in with a pack of seasoned M owners and try to keep up on windy roads that cut through the Hill Country. We're shooting a bunch of hours of video from this weekend, so I'm sure there will be plenty to share. Most of it includes me shitting myself from the performance. |

it was awesome, Steve. I learned on a manual and have been driving almost nothing but for 20 years. But I stalled this M like three times today. He has a racing clutch and flywheel and the clutch pedal has very limited travel. The gear shift is short, as is the shifter knob travel. It's very grabby and there doesn't seem to be any such thing as easing into 1st. Once I got going it was fine, and the car has so much power that even without doing a gear drop you feel like you did one with all the acceleration and the sound of the Dinan exhaust growling to life. edit: supercharger is installed |

Govnor - cool beans. lucky you it was a rare experience that I was super appreciative for. makes it kind of hard to come back to a stock Civic. i'm definitely looking at M's though. |

I drove my dad's brand new M3 just a couple of days ago. That much power is intimidating to say the least. |

Sounds like a blast! On a side note, are you into sport bikes at all? You can get a hell of a lot of performance out of a nice bike and you don't even have to invest a ton! (except the crash risk of course) Anything that gets you into 0-60 in 3 seconds for less than $10K is a win imo! Still, that car event sounds awesome. The M3 is easily one of my favorite cars ever. |

p.s. the feeling of 186 mph trying to pull your cheeks off your face under your full face helmet is something worth experiencing! |

I'm not, but we had a pretty slick R1 show up at the meet. He also owns an M, but something was wrong with his suspension. If/when I get a bike it will be low and slo like a Hammer. :-) |

So they just lend people their cars to drive around windy roads like maniacs? What kind of super-insurance do they have? |

Why was the needle moving so slow? :D I like the M3 as well, I've considered it more than once. I just can't pull the trigger because of the cost vs performance. Thats cool that you got to borrow one and have the experience for fweeeeeeeeeee! |
