I'm a designer and photographer, so I have a decent collection of gear. (2) Canon EOS 1D Mark IIN's (1) Canon EOS 1D Canon 16-35mm 2.8L, 24-70mm 2.8L, 70-200mm 2.8L, 300mm 2.8L, Canon 100mm F/2.0, Canon 15mm fisheye. Canon 580 EX II's Pocketwizards and all the clamps for off-camera flash. (3) Alien Bees B800 studio strobes and all the crap that goes with studio photography. Even through the EOS 1D is an older camera, it is still my favorite camera of all time. Over 300,000 photos taken with it and still going strong. |

naturalbornleadr - It's a solid walkaround lens. It can be a little soft at times when shooting wide open. The only gripe is lens doesn't lock so if you point it down, the lens extends out on its own. |

Crooklyn and Brandt (and anyone else): How much do I need to spend for a decent camera to shoot MMA? Thanks. |

Kostakio - Crooklyn and Brandt (and anyone else): For a UFC, about $2000-2500. For a smaller show, I'd say $1000-1500. It's not about the camera, it's about the lens. |

It's true, it's all about the lens, but you can spend a LOT less and buy some used stuff for now. I repled on your other thread and send you a PM. Look for a used Nikon D50 and a new Nikon 50mm F/1.8 lens to start. That combo shouldn't cost more than $405. Buy lenses from Adorama, Cameta, Abes of Maine, B&H Photo/Video, Amazon, or Ritz. Don't buy anything from places in Brooklyn that have really good prices...scam artists. Check out this site if you want to learn more. Ken Rockwell suggests the Nikon D40, but that Nikon D40, D40x, and D60 wont work with the 50mm F/1.8 lens. That's why you need a D50 or Nikon D80 (or D200, D300, D90, etc) |

Nikon D-80 Nikkor 50mm 1.8 Nikkor AF-S 18-135mm Lensbaby 2.0 some photos I am proud of so far. (Just got this setup recently) Sequence shot using the zoom lens. I need photoshop for better stitching and have since learned some things about priorities that would have helped me with the POF. ![]() Some low light shots from the Oregon Coast Aquarium ![]() ![]() My son found a prepicked flower in the park and I think wanted me to take a photo of something other than him for once. I still got him in there a little.. ![]() |

MMA and boxing requires a good body that handles noise well (high ISO) and an array of f/2.8 lenses. You cannot get anywhere near 1/500 indoors with a f/5.6 or higher unless the ISO is cranked high and you're OK with the noise. The 28-70mm f/2.8 AFS, 70-200 f/2.8 AFS, 300mm f/2.8 AFS, and 400mm f/2.8 AFS are what the pro's are using. Ray K http://www.ultravista.com |

Black ones... Seeing as we are playing the lists game though, I own, or probably more accurately my company owns: Nikon D700 x2 Nikon D200 x2 Nikor 24-70mm f/2.8 Nikor 80-200 f/2.8 (next lens to be upgraded, when the 70-200 vr mk2 becomes easy to find). Nikor 85mm f/1.4 Nikor 35mm f/1.8 Nikor 50mm f/1.8 Sigma 28mm f/1.8 macro Nikor 17-55mm f/2.8 Nikor 35mm f/2.8 PC Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 I also rent a variety of gear depending on what I plan on shooting, personal favourites include the 200mm f/2 and the 14-24mm f/2.8 neither of which I use enough to justify buying... I think next on my wish list is a view camera, though this will have to wait until I am settled somewhere and can find and build a relationship with a darkroom who I trust, been far too long without using film... |
