elburrogrande -BackAddict347x -brixx139 -Poncey - Meh, if they don't get the best from each continent like Lloyds, what's the point?!An awesome format with highly accomplished (for their level) competitor s? Honestly I dont understand the logic here sometimes. So are you only interested in watching rolls with the best players in the world? Do you even train? I learn from almost every roll I watch and im always entertained. I love the art, not the people performing it. What Lloyd was great marketing, but it was more so love for BJJ, and providing something to the community than it is marketing. The funny thing about everything is that people expect to get everything under the sun for nothing, and get upset when someone wants them to join a mailing list, or to buy some products. So i'll indulge you in your statement that the Kumite was a marketing ploy, but for what the fans got in exchange was far greater. You got to see matches you ordinarily would NEVER see, unless you flew all over the world to watch them compete at various tournaments. As for your other statement, how many of these competitors did I see winning Brown Belt worlds? The same could be said for the competitors on that Purple Belt list, how many of those guys are Purple, or even Blue Belt World Champions? The whole list? Of course not. What Lloyd *DID* do was pick several Brown Belts from across the globe from VARIOUS weight classes, based on their IBJJF accolades. This was open to more people than you saw on the list posted publicly on Facebook. Some guys got injured and couldnt make it (I.E Kit Dale, etc etc), while others couldnt make it due to other reasons (I.E Gianni Grippo due to school, Felipe, Rocha due to stupidity, etc etc) so the competitors that you all saw was the result of what was left (which was STILL a sick list of competitors). So with all of that taken into equation, there was more attention paid to detail when it came to the competitors overall IBJJF accolades when compared to this Purple Belt soiree (and this is by no offense to them). Calling this tournament a Kumite, or anything similar to what Lloyd did simply because there are no time limits and sub only is absurd. Not to mention Lloyd brought those guys out, housed them, and paid them for winning *AND* hitting money moves. So um yea, thats my 2 cents. |

like I said, i love what lloyd did. I think its great for the sport and ive watched all the videos. Im guessing you didnt even bother looking at the credentials of the guys on the list since you asked how many are world champions. well literally half won the worlds at blue belt, and two placed this year at purple. and thats just the gi worlds. |

Im a very big fan of competitive Jiu Jitsu, so I already knew the stats of the relevant guys on that list prior to this thread even forming. However, its like I said before, there are several other relevant competitors on the scene that would need to be added to that tournament for it to be considered in any way similar to what the Kumite was. I mentioned Tye Ryan and Tim Spriggs and you immediately jumped to talk about weight classes. Well where those boys are trained they compete in both their weight class AND the absolute, so they wouldnt care about weight. |

BackAddict347x -Do you know for a fact that these guys werent contacted? (My point still stands that youre being petty, just curious as to whether youre speaking out of actual knowledge or if youre just playing devils advocate).elburrogrande - like I said, i love what lloyd did. I'm not being any more petty than a guy who bats an eye at the person who says his Ford Escort is similar to a Ferrari. My point was (and still is) the title of this thread says this event is the Purple Belt version of the Kumite, and i've stated why it couldnt be compared to it. As I mentioned above, the instant I mentioned Tim's name, then weight classes started being brung up. You think that weight classes were discussed at the real Kumite? Not at all. Now what I *WILL* say is this is a No time limit, sub only tournament amongst some of the top guys at Purple Beltm, and the weight classes are focused towards the smaller weight divisions. The Kumite was different based on both the weight classes (no focus was placed on this), the IBJJF accolades from the competitors overall, and a various other factors that I will leave out in hopes to not be called petty again. I dont want there to be any misunderstanding that im saying this tournament isnt any good, because there are a few really good guys on that list, but its in no comparison to what Lloyd did. |

Weight classes weren't brought up as soon as you mentioned tim. They were brought up in the original post and in the flier. I'm guessing you didn't read either since you started naming heavyweights. On a more positive note, weigh ins are on friday and it looks like this event will be streamed live. |

The kumite isn't even referenced or mentioned in the flier, just a marketing angle someone has taken along the way. So what Good to see more invite only tournaments and hopefully it is streamed live which would be cool as fuck

I learn from almost every roll I watch and im always entertained. I love the art, not the people performing it. I can read perfectly well. I stated that the tournament isnt a Kumite because they arent rounding up as many of the BEST Purple Belts in the world (with basis on IBJJF accolades), and then made reference to Tim and Tye, and your reply was: "Tim Spriggs is a heavyweight, Tye Ryan is a middleweight" - Elburrogrande That is YOU bringing weight classes into the mix. Regardless of what the flier says, if your going to title the thread "Purple Belt Kumite", then i'd expect to see more names on that list from some other guys who are doing incredibly well right now (I.e Nick Schultz, Jeff Cummings, Denilson Bischillari, etc etc) and yes, this means that more weight classes will need to be thrown into the mix, and THAT is what started this whole debate in the first place. So looking at what has been written, my reading comprehension skills are just fine, and my point still stands, for this to be considered any kind of Kumite-like tournament, more adjustments will need to be made, otherwise its just a way of labeling any tournament that is no time limit, sub-only the same thing that Lloyd did, which it clearly is not. Happy to see you guys didnt die yesterday, gr00vy. |

JoeyHustle - Edwin vs liera Jr would be a good one. They've fought at least once(Samurai Pro in August) Liera tapped him(choke from the back) pretty quick. |

looks like isaac is out. "Due to unforeseen circumstances, Isaac Doederlein has stepped down from the tournament. Replacing such a talent is difficult but we're excited to announce Rayom "The Spartan" Ribeiro as the alternate competitor." |
