Looks like Mark Tauscheck from channel 13 may be interested in doing a story on this. He offered to come by last night but I couldn't do it at that time. I'm waiting to hear from him about rescheduling. |

Now the city has set up a meeting with me and my lawyer for this Friday at 8am. The purpose is to work out a settlement. I do judo T/Th/Sun right now and the city is saying that it would be ok to do it on Sundays but not T/Th. That makes no sense. Make sure you watch Channel 13 Thursday night at 10pm. Should be a story about me on that broadcast. |

Yeah, I could see where Devon would take a personal interest in this thread. I still don't see how the city can regulate how you hang out with friends in your own house. It all seems pretty rediculous. |

Ok, had the meeting with city officials this morning. Good news and bad news. The good news is they are pretty much dropping the lawsuit. They agree that there is enough gray area in the existing statute that I may not be in violation of it. The bad news is they are now considering drafting legislation to attempt to control this type of activity. I have no idea what the language will be, but they are talking about the numbers of people and the frequency with which they come to your home. At least they are making a statute that will apply to all citizens equally. The issue of charges isn't relevant here, they aren't talking about that at all now. Will it be illegal to have 5 buddies over to shoot hoops instead of 3 or 4? We'll have to wait to see what they come up with... |

I've thought about the ACLU angle before. Once I get an idea of just what type of language they are talking about I will contact the ACLU. Those guys get into some pretty weird conflicts but I sure support the reasons behind the ACLU. |

Ok, it's on Channel 13 tonight at 10! I have no idea how they are going to spin it. Hopefully, they don't demonize me. Either way, they shot some cool footage of some throws and I even threw in a flying armlock for good measure. We'll see how much they show. |

ok, just saw the piece! well done bret! and what a nice setup too! seems like the only thing they will try to get you on may be the traffic thing, but that can be easily resolved. have everyone meet beforehand at parking lot close by and ride together from there. something like that. hell i am surprised none of my neighbors have tried something like this. my buddies can park like goofballs all over the road and i live on a cul de sac. |

The crazy thing about this is that's exactly what I've been doing since I bought this house! There is a soccer field a few blocks away where everyone parks. Did you see the shot of the outside of my house? That's the typical scene on a T/Th evening. 1 or 2 cars in my own friggin' driveway! The neighbor just lies about the number of vehicles and participants. I have thrown some big parties since I've moved here and had lots of cars and people over but that had nothing to do with judo. I've got the neigbhor's traffic counts (city finally forwarded them to me) and they are a complete fabrication. I usually have 6-10 guys over here and he's got me with 18-25! Two cars are inflated to 8 or 9 and they are parked illegally in the street according to him. The funny thing is, Myron actually put down license plate numbers which gave me the ability to cross check the list. He's got one guy at my house 8 different times when the guy has documented proof he was out of state on business. One time he even has him driving both of his cars over here at once. The list is just chock full of these type of examples. Yet the city takes it at face value and sues me. It's crazy. Overall, I'd say the story was good journalism. They presented both sides of the story. They sure cut out a ton of what I said but that's typical. I just dig watching my uchi mata at the very beginning:) |
