Change! http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OGRiMWFhNWY4MTgzMjI3NjEzNGQwMWFiMTlhYmRhN2Y= One of Obama's Earmarks Went to Hospital That Employs Michelle Obama Dan Riehl notes, via Amanda Carpenter, that in the list of earmarks he requested, $1 Million was requested for the construction of a new hospital pavilion at the University Of Chicago. The request was put in in 2006. You know who works for the University of Chicago Hospital? Michelle Obama. She's vice president of community affairs. As Byron noted, "In 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that Mrs. Obama's compensation at the University of Chicago Hospital, where she is a vice president for community affairs, jumped from $121,910 in 2004, just before her husband was elected to the Senate, to $316,962 in 2005, just after he took office." Looks like that raise was worth it. |

"And this is just the beginning. Wait until he wins the nomination then the dirt will really start coming out!" I doubt it. They went through 2 pages of earmarks and could only find a request to improve a hospital that happened to give its vice president of community affairs, Obama's wife, a raise. Not looking too good for the swiftboaters. |

i've said the whole time that Obama people would flip out when they were actually forced to examine him instead of just using him and an idealized hero for their pet issues |

I would say that almost tripling one's salary in 1 year is a bit more then a raise. |

"LOL at that website. Solid sources right there. haha." Which source is funny? The Chicago Tribune or the Chicago Sun-Times? I'll admit, they sometimes give me a lol, too. But just so you don't have to strain your sensitive eyes looking at political incorrectness: http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/03/sweet_scoop_obama_after_initia.html http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-0611010273nov01,0,1188525.story |

Yeah, that is probably the first time in History that a Politician has given, Earmarks, etc...to a family memeber friend or otherwise. Hell, Some presidents pass bills protecting their largest campaign donors from any harm all while screwing over the American people. Imagine that. |

"Improving hospitals = bad" The point is that WHICH hospital to improve should be an *objective* decision and not about who gave the most money to your wife. |

If any sort of "foul play" is involved here, we all of course will take note. I am undecided on who to support, but am leaning towards Obama. I see nothing here to change that. It appears that the main complaint here is that Obama's wife is perceived to be recieving unfair compensation for being Vice President of Ciommunity Affairs based on her relationship with Obama. In comparison to run-of-the-mill sinister Bush and Clinton family financial connections this seems REALLY tame. |

Hope! A new slogan? "No more corrupt than you might expect from your average Illinois politician." How about a new chant: "Can we exchange a million tax payer dollars for a 259% increase in salary? Yes We Can." |

There's plenty of "dirt" on any candidate you'll never find one that makes it this far in politics that doesn't do everything 100% ethically. |

"In comparison to run-of-the-mill sinister Bush and Clinton family financial connections this seems REALLY tame." "Yeah, that is probably the first time in History that a Politician has given, Earmarks, etc...to a family memeber friend or otherwise." Those are some pretty stirring defenses. Okay, let's try another slogan: "Obama, Yes We Can Do Worse." |

"But everyone laughed at voting for a guy who sticks to his values every single time. Ron Paul." I don't think anyone laughed at Ron Paul *because of* his consistency or character. I think that they granted him that and laughed despite of it. |

LoL
How much will Cheney and GHWB and their cronies have made after 8 years of Junior?
A helluva lot more than $200k.
University of Chicago Hospital:
* Headquarters: Chicago IL, USA
* Industry: Healthcare, Hospitals & Clinics
* Revenue: $861.9 Million
* Employees: 5,000
* Jobs: 102
So Obama earmarked $1 million, or 0.1% of the hospital's annual revenue, for the best - one of the very best in the world - and largest hospital in his state, and it employs his wife, a Harvard Law graduate, as a VP ... and this is your scandal?
Harvard Law graduates will make $300k/year 2 years after graduation in private |

"How much will Cheney and GHWB and their cronies have made after 8 years of Junior?" Okay, Cheney and GHWB are corrupt, too. Happy? It is not helpful in a case of corruption to point and say "well, this other guy's worse!". It's a cynical technique meant to distract. |
