So i had an issue with my computer tower where it was stuck in power save mode and when i plugged the keyboard or monitor into it they wouldnt work. So i took it to a computer place and i told the guy the problem he says no problem we charge a flat rate of 70 bucks to fix everything. So he prints me the receipt and i leave.

He calls me later that day saying he cant fix it till tomorrow because he wasnt aware it wouldnt show anything on the monitor which i told him. So this lady calls me today saying my processor went bad. Its a dual core processor hp. She says she put a new one in it (better than the one that was in it). Old one was 2.0 and this ones 2.6. Now shes saying that will be an extra 70 bucks for the processor.

Am i being ripped off? The man said flat rate 70 bucks at the start and didnt say anything about paying for parts. And they didnt even call and ask me if i wanted to buy the new processor which they put in...

Clarence Parents - Flat rate 70$ = Flat rate 70$ .. if there was no agreement about potential extra cost for parts that they did not even ask your permission to put in.. tell them to go fuck themselves.

If you gave permission to replace the processor.. you owe them the money.

Didnt give permission to replace it. She called and said we replaced the processor. And its working now... But you have to pay for it.

But i did give permission to fix it. The man said nothing about parts. He said oh thats no problem. 70 dollars flat rate.

Otherwise, it would not be terrible to pay them for the processor. You're already $70 in. Just let them know you'll never be back because they were not clear with you from the start. I would be more cautious about your CPU, they could be working you but without being able to look it, its going to be hard to tell. What you described sounds like a driver issue and if your CPU fried the PC wouldn't even turn over most likely. You have ignored this user.

Have you read the receipt you signed to see exactly what it says, and not what the clown at the desk told you? Often workers/sales people don't explain the entire policy to you.

You've got a couple choices, go in with the original receipt and tell them you have no plans to pay an extra $70, if they don't like that they can take the new proc out.

Ask to speak to the original person you dealt with or a manager and explain what you explained in the OP.

I'd do it in person vs the phone, I think you'll get a better response.

The part may cost $40-50, but technical repair is another matter. If they sell that chip in house for $70, it is what it is. Did you sign a waiver or work agreement? You have ignored this user.

If you buy a computer from best buy you should be kicked in the balls.

Newegg and tiger direct are the way to go even if you're not putting a PC together from scratch they'll sell you more computer for your money. Phone Post
