Thats the computer. I bought it about 2 years ago at best buy. With everything it was like a grand. Used it for a year then it shit out. So it sat for a year. So the lady replaced my processor apparently but she said dual core on the phone i thought?

acid_flashback - If you can buy the same processor for less than $70 then cause a shitstorm and get your pc back and go fix it yourself. Otherwise, it would not be terrible to pay them for the processor. You're already $70 in. Just let them know you'll never be back because they were not clear with you from the start. Phone Post

You should be looking at the best processor for that mobo and putting your money there.

Cancel the work and ask for your rig as was. Pay the $70. Phone Post

OP

Are you being ripped off? No - An extra 70 bucks for a processor replacement sounds like a fairly decent deal. He might have taken one out of a PC he had on site and popped it on your motherboard.

They charge a flat rate for fixing PC's - That shouldnt include expensive parts like processors. If it's just an exta 70 bucks, pay the man he money. I understand you never gave him permission to replace processor - in that case, you'd still owe him 70 bucks.

140 bucks for a new processor (and whatever else was wrong with it) fixed is not a bad deal at all.

Op -

Here's the price of the processor you had in your PC before shop fixing it - 90 bucks from newegg. If he gave you a better one, you got a deal.

I doubt you had a quad core in their originally, if you did and they replaced it with a newer model the CPU would probably be 150$ alone.

The Athlon II is still going for $60-$80.

Not a ripoff imho.

They should have consulted you before installing it though.

Hey no worries, I just think you're getting a fairly decent deal

As BryanAnd stated, a new quad core is expensive alone - the PC shop repairman might have had one in a broken PC, took it out, and popped it in yours - Effectively charging you an extra 70 bucks and giving you a heck of a deal.

I Think you're making out just fine on this deal. Double check your processor in windows settings, if he hooked you up, hook him up on yelp!

I always go out of my way to post good reviews if a merchant takes care of me. In fact, I recently signed up for Yelp to make a favorable review for a GREAT merchant.

Hmm, well, even then 70 bucks wouldnt be a "bad" deal - Especially not installed.

If your processor truly was bad, a new dual core processor would run you around 50-60 bucks alone.

Yeah, prolly better if they consulted with you first, but really nothing to get all worked up over.

You can save your money for a new rig while burning this one out IMO.

make sure you ask for the box & receipt for the processor you bought, you may very well lock them up and then you will know if you were taken to pound town

So even IF it were a dual core it wouldnt be bad? I know she said mine was 2.0 ghz and the one she put it was 2.6 ghz. I just dont understand why she said it was a better one if she was replacing a quad with a dual. Ill ask to ask when i pick it up after work.

Yeah, I don't prefer the engraved skulls either.

My computer has a penis engraved on ATC case - The LED lights are in the shape of a cock ring.

Right, it would still be a decent deal even if your old one was a quad core - Decent because all processors are expensive and sometimes installing them are a pain in the ass - Not always, but occasionally they're a pain. Usually depends on the fan.

Things are prolly easier now, though - I havent built a pc in quite a few years. Last one I thought I scratched the processor installing the fan. Success!
