Believe me, my dad was half of the famous Tap Dance duo "Adams & Adams" so I know all about warming up.

It was weird though... like I was in a different state of mind or something.

On the one hand, I was chatting with a P.E. teacher who was telling me some stuff, but then there was like another "me" who was blocking it all out and all I could see was the number on the chalk board.

It was crazy.

I just pushed and pushed then next thing I know --BAM!-- I put up the number and was coming back down. and I could hear the P.E. teacher speaking clearly again.

I said, "Did you SEE that? That's The record!"

She peaked at the weight and said, "oh, yeah".

It was just weird.

Wow... I just got back from my uncle's house. He played college football at West Virginia and has lifted weights his entire life. Even at 60, he's still a very big guy.

I told him my story from today and he just stared at me then walked straight outside to smoke without saying a word. --It was WEIRD!

CLEARLY there's some "secret protocol" or something I don't know and I come off like a noob when I relay my story. For that I'm sorry, I guess.

Look, I don't know if it's jealousy or what exactly. Maybe I'm a genetic freak, maybe it was luck... I do not know. All I do know is certain guys who are "into" weightlifting seem to have serious issues with the accomplishments of others.

I will speak no more on the topic.

Dunno if you get the reference but Shen translated the Japanese children's book "the occasional heart of the turtle" (also translatable as "sometimes, the heart of a tortoise" as Japan has only one word for both species) into preliminary drafts of the "karate kid" screenplay in the 80s.

The original story was set in Japan about a post Second World War veteran who befriends and violently tortures a schoolboy. The story becomes a weird "50 shades of gray" version of a gay relationship between the two. When the boy is questioned about the marks on his body following abuse he lies and says it is from school judo exercise. Like all oriental tales, the story ends sadly, with the Daniel-San character attending the funeral of his life long lover as an older man dressed as a geisha (no one knows but he is not a woman). The turtle reference is a weird description of pedo sex.

Despite the obviously strong subject content, this book was required readings for many Japanese schools in the late 60s/early 70s. There was no controversy about it becoming a movie simply because the American public knew nothing about it and the title was changed to the racist "karate" moniker representing the martial arts craze of that time.

FYI there is also a part in the book where the geisha character beats a woman's weightlifting contest after hard work. That's what I thought Shen was writing about.

No, I am NOT a female.

I teach self-defense seminars several times throughout the year at the school.

I was killing time before teaching and wandered into the weight room, by myself and on a chalk board were written all the "school records" for the weight room.

I went for the squat max, then surpassed it, as I said by a wide margin. A P.E. teacher came in and saw this as we chatted.

It was on a brand-new Nautilus Leg Squat/Leg
Press machine.

you're a an adult male, more than likely in your 30's at least, and you were able to squat more than the highest squatting kid in the school? 

ptper - At first I thought you meant that you were in high school and I was gonna be all like "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?" but then later on you mentioned something about being an old man so I guess you aren't really in high school you there for another reason and then I reread your post and it said something about teaching a seminar and trying to beat the record and doing it so I guess I would have realized that you weren't in high school if I had taken my time and read your original post a little better.

TexasBadAss - As soon as the all girls school puts a universal machine 201 yards away from the school, I will go after the bench press record.
