I can only guess it's because it makes other people feel bad when they pop in for their weekly 20 minutes of cardio on 'pizza night' (seriously) and see someone actually putting in work. But remember, planet fitness doesn't judge. |

White347LX - These gyms are strictly for casual fitness customers?Yes it's not suppose to be a hardcore gym. My wife goes to one since its only 5 mins from home and she doesn't use free weights just the machines.

If they're going to ban deadlifts and don't want people dropping weights and grunting, then why not just eliminate free weights, dumbbells over 20lbs and squat racks altogether. This type of gym should only have cardio equipment and machines. |

TheKidAintMine - If they're going to ban deadlifts and don't want people dropping weights and grunting, then why not just eliminate free weights, dumbbells over 20lbs and squat racks altogether. One near my house only has dumbbells up to 85 pounds. It also has no bars/plates at all, just dumbbells, a few flat benches, and tons of machines. I got a free month from a gift exchange thing, went once, and realized I was better off just continuing to train at home.
And yes, it is extremely hypocritical that they have giant signs up everywhere declaring it a "judgement free zone" meanwhile they discriminate against anyone who trains seriously. It's a good gimmick for house wifes I guess, though. To each their own. |

It's all a gimmick marketing machine. They are all about up-selling to $20/month, which has more perks, and adding bullshit fees. Even though they say there is no contract, there is actually a contract you sign. There are misc. fees for mid-year and end-year. If you cancel your membership, they will charge you a fee. They make these dumb rules and "judgment-free zones" to just get people in who want to lose weight without hitting the gym hard. Those people usually stop going and will keep paying monthly dues in hope that they will start up again. The memberships get deducted from a credit card, so people just forget about it, or pay early cancellation fees. It's not like you can just pay one month at a time with cash. Kind of a scam. It is a great money maker for the franchise, but it's totally just set up to get the most profit from dumb people. It is a cool place for those people who want to pay $10/month to only use cardio equipment (with a few fees throughout the year). |

I agree with you. But let's realistic about this. In a weight room, there will always be some dropping of the weights and some grunting. That's just inevitable. The fact that Planet Fitness has such a low tolerance for these acts to the point where they ring a fucking bell to shame people tells me that they should just eliminate free weights altogether. The demographic that they're catering to doesn't need or want heavy free weights anyways. |

I never had an issue at all when I went there. Probably the cleanest gym by a mile as well. Now I go to Anytime. There are a few dudes who are all in there grunting like assholes. It bugs everyone, you can just see it on their faces. LA was easily the douchiest gym, lol. Sorry Napkin. It was. Curling in the squat racks, fuckers wearing gas masks on the treadmill. The whole nine. |

jcblass - I can't stand hearing meat heads grunt and slam shit just to get a reaction out of people of be alpha. Look at the dick in the video purposely sounding the alarm and acting like a sophomore in high school despite the fact he is 40. I wouldn't want to work out with that nostalgic frat boy trying to relive his glory years at the gym. Nice tribal tattoo too cool guy!Grow a sack.

Sagiv Lapkin -Grunting while getting fucked in the ass in the shower area is probably not what PF is talking about, but thanks anyway Faggot Napkin. :-)

Just got back from a copy cat PF, while I was resting between sets on the bench, two midtwenty something chicks started messing with the weight collars trying to get a plate off my bar. I was beyond pissed, knocked out a great next set though.

I live/work in two different cities. I have a PF membership and I love it ($10 a month) - it has everything I need to get a great workout, good hours, and for once a reasonable price for a gym. I couldn't care less about their lunk alarm, I don't pay attention to what others are doing And I don't make a scene when working out. Perfect fit for what I am looking for.
