In what I refer to as the weed "dark ages" we had no clue as to what we were getting. Didn't even know that "strains" existed. Sure, you might have heard of some old-school shit like "Panama Red" or "Acapulco Gold" or the legendary "Thai Stick" (though technically not a strain). No, we had real loose definitions that were poor levels of categorization at best, usually defined by potency- "skunk", "fire", "kind bud", "dank", "chronic", "commercial", "schwag"- and if you were lucky (which was rarely) you'd get "red hair sens" which obviously meant buds of a female plant with red hairs, no seeds. Ok, the question: is this still par for the course where it's illegal and you're limited to your options, or do you know what you're getting, strain wise? |

What the fuck, is it 1974 again? I order my herb off a menu that tells me strain name, THC % and indica or sativa. |

I personally don't get into the names and stuff. My Guy knows I only want the dank and he always tells me the names but I don't care. As long as they are sparkly trees I'm in :)

TheVandalz - What the fuck, is it 1974 again? We don't have that luxury in non-medical states. I am however fortunate enough to have variety and names of strains- Blue Dream, Maui, Mr. Nice, Woody Kush- to name a few, but this is an exception where I live, not the rule. |

For me it was similar to you, but different in some ways. We had schwag (shitty weed), mid-grades (which were just the higher up part of the buds schwag came from),hydo, KB, then the occasional "named" strain that would come along. I always remember blueberry and bubblegum being my favorite strains, and it seemed to be consistent over a 5 or so year period. Sadly I've now reached that point where I'm older, not connected, and the only weed I could get is some shit. How do no club going, non hipster 30 something's find decent herb? That's what's wrong with America, if you ask me.

SnapLocally -Yea In nonmedical states you take what you can get. Every now and then you'll get some legit strains, though.TheVandalz - What the fuck, is it 1974 again?

I have my Doctors Rec and still buy from dealers from time to time. I have some friends of friends that get some good bud for cheap. The dealers know the strains now a days since pot is all over the place here in California (Bay Area) but they don't normally know a single thing about the herb other than that. So they try to sound technical and tell you the strain but they try to sell you by telling you how "dank", "dense","chronic" it is.

My local place (WA State, just outside of Seattle- best city in the fucking world...), has 45 strains regularly, and the guy behind the counter can tell you about each and how AND why they are different from each other, let alone how and where they're grown. Gone are the days of meeting some guy in an alley for a lid that might be oregano. |

I've known my guy for years and he always has good shit. Tries to tell me all the names and I just go Grandma's Boy on him. I don't care what it's called, as long as it gets me high.

I get told so many different names for buds, all I care about is if it gets me nice, high and creative. I have a lot of respect for botanist but me, the consumer, I usually just wanna smoke.

Man, I fucking hate dealing with people who say its this strain or that strain. I don't fucking care. I know good herb when I see it, I know good herb when I smell it, I know good herb when I smoke/vape it. That's all that matters IMO. |

T-Ham -I wish it were that easy. Well,I guess it isn't that hard, but I'd rather just buy a 1/4 twice a month than grow.Feelz Good - For me it was similar to you, but different in some ways.
