I was expecting her to win, and do so by armbar, but I'm still surprised it happened so quickly. Her opponent was ranked 10th in the world and has some really good wins. Great performance on her pro debut and congrats to Ronda. |

Her armbars are great but her ankle locks and knee bars are really good. anyway the bjj worlds is coming up and she will be there unless some big money fight comes up. |

Wouldn't be surprised if she gets a phone call from Strikeforce very soon. I want to see her focus on MMA, but doing well at the BJJ worlds certainly won't harm her resume with the MMA powers that be. |

Gary, I am glad for her. She deserves some payback for all her years in training when there were no $$$ incentives in judo. I just hopes she picks to do what she wants. Go for the money, be smart about it. No need to get injured doing what someone else wants. We in judo know where she "ranks" in female grappling. See you Friday in Michigan at the Scholastics. |

she wants to do the worlds. she prefers no-gi but she wants to do the worlds. She never does any touranments she if does wants to, nobody can make her do anything if she does want. She likes to compete in between fights so she can stay sharp. Beside it appears that fighting hurt has no affect on her mma. Looking forwad to Michigan and its warm weather lol. |

The card will also see the pro debut, and a much ballyhooed one at that in MMA circles, of female fighter Ronda Rousey, a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in judo and a 3-0 amateur MMA fighter ranked No. 1 in the world in the 145-pound featherweight class. Rousey has trained largely at Glendale Fighting Club under the tutelage of Edmond Tarverdyan and with Team Hayastan under the renowned Gokor Chivitchian. "I'm always nervous for everything," said Rousey of making her debut. "I think it's a natural reaction. "I'm nervous, excited, I'm ready." Rousey, who offers a stellar judo and submission background, won't make your average debut, facing veteran Ediane Gomes, who sports a stellar 6-1 record. "The reason I'm fighting someone that's 6-1 is nobody else would even take the fight," Rousey said, adding that her management even went as far as offering to pay for travel and expenses for potential opponents. Gomes owns five wins via submission, all of them by way of armbar. Despite her opponent's experience advantage, Rousey, who's trained alongside the likes of local fighters such as Karen Darabedyan and Manny Gamburyan, enters today confident in her chances. "I don't think anyone has the right to beat me. I feel I've worked too hard and nobody's worked harder than me," said Rousey, adding that she believes the matchup is also good for her stylistically. "She's a jiu-jitsu girl, standing's not really her strong suit. I think it's a great matchup for me." |

Very happy to hear this. Congratulations, Ronda. GaryB, maybe you can verify this quote that's been attributed to Ronda... "During her post fight victory interview at Tuff-N-Uff, Ronda proclaimed that she would be fighting Christiane "Cyborg" Santos before the end of 2011....." (Source: mysportsgeeks) That seems to be more a statement than a desire. I hope something's in the works w/SForce + Cristiane that Ronda can't officially announce. Maybe a slip-of-the-tongue-spilling-of-the-beans during the post-win excitement? |

I watched both intereviews and the MMA crowd(guys) just love her. She has the cool girl personality and the skills/bad ass mentality in the rink. Her judo training perpared her this way. Her opponent that went nuts in pre fight has no idea what she was getting herself in for. The foot injury should heal by June for the world BJJ championships. |

Saw the post fight interviews. Very cool, but I'm sorry to hear she came into the fight with a last minute (freak) injury and that she can't yet afford to train full-time like she should be able to. I guess now that she's impressed all with her first win it might be time to step things up in terms of searching for sponsors that will financially allow her the training/down time she deserves as a professional fighter. Regardless, congratulations on the win!! |

^^she'd absolutely destroy any division other than brown/black IMO, if shes not fighting that division I'd say don't waste the time |

raleigh - ^^she'd absolutely destroy any division other than brown/black IMO, if shes not fighting that division I'd say don't waste the time maybe maybe not.. just a few years ago Rhadi Ferguson said she was blue belt level. Jiu Jitsu and Judo are totally different sports with some cross over. We have no idea how good her guard passing is and she's definitely going to have the guard pulled on her. |

Judo Scott -raleigh - ^^she'd absolutely destroy any division other than brown/black IMO, if shes not fighting that division I'd say don't waste the time Rhadi said that about ronda three or four years ago and he was probably right but i don't think he was talking about her using her throwing and matwork transitions to position and submission. there was alot of things she didn't know or understand a couple of years ago but she has the ability learn things and make the techique better. we would show her something and 15 minutes later she would make the techique cleaner. Remember she is a proffessional, this is her job and her life she doesn't just train hard for the couple months out of the year and go to some tournament. |

If she's training BJJ regularly then I'm sure she'll kick ass. Its just you know there are a lot of people who think a bad ass in Judo is automatically synonymous with a bad ass in BJJ. |
