Sometimes I get in a vitamin mood but most of the time, I just eat. I've never had any major medical problems. I feel pretty good. Never sleepy at work. Never too lazy to get something done. Do vitamins really help? I mean really, when you think about it, probably only 5-10% of the population takes a multivitamin every day. Even less take those "specific" vitamins like B12 or E on a daily basis. I personally think it might be a load of horse shit, this vitamin thing. |

Actually vitamins are very important. There are some diseases and disorders which can be traced to a lack of certain vitamins. Also some vitamins have been shown to reduced the symptoms of various diseases/disorders. BUT the thing about vitamins is it is all based on whether you actually getting enough of them in your diet. Vitamin C for example is a vitamin one can get from fruits like oranges. And if one is eating enough fruit then taking Vitamin C suppliments may not be a good thing. The good thing about Vitamin C is it is a water soluble Vitamin so if you take in more than the daily recommended amount then you simply pee it out. But with Vitamins like Vitamin E, which is a fat soluble vitamin, it stays in your body for a long time and extra amounts may lead to problems associated with "excess" intake. So people take a Vitamin like Vitamin E and see a difference not realizing that they were Vitamin E deficient to big with and taking Vitamin E only put them where they were suppose to be if they had regularly consumed Vitamin E. |

Here is how it really works... Vitamin pills alone do almost nothing. Your body needs enzymes found in foods to make use of vitamins. When taken with food the enzymes in your stomach mix with the vitamin pills and make use of them. The bottom line is, you are better off to eat a balanced diet of nutritious whole foods without vitamin pills than eating a crappy diet and taking vitamins. The best thing to do is take the pills and eat the right diet. Especially if you are serious about training. |

The best foods for getting your vitamins naturally are calf's liver, spinach and carrots. They are packed with nutrients. For best results, cook the liver, but eat the spinach and carrots raw. |

I think multivitamins are B.S. as well. Just eat a balanced and well nutritioned diet. |

Im a family medicine physician Here is the simple truth. Most of what you get in a multivitamin is excreted out in your urine and not absorbed. It is better for your body to eat a well balanced diet and obtain vitamins and minerals in a more readily bioavailable form. That being said it is very difficult on a daily basis to balance your diet with everything you need Therefore I recommend that all my patients take a multivitamin once a day because it is important for proper physiologic fuction for your body to have vitamins and minerals available, even if most of what you are getting is not put to use the part that is used is worthwhile |

Well, it can't hurt (unless you are taking some ungodly massive dosage). Most people have a crappy diet and strenous exercise can create a demand that exceeds the recommended daily. |

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I take a liquid multi-vitamin/mineral/herb supplemnt (10-in-1 from GBB) and a glutathione-producing protein powder called MA+. Say what you will, but I just never ever get sick and I am confident that my body is prepared to withstand the assault of free radicals, disease and aging that will come at me over the next few decades. But hey, you guys enjoy your surgery, pharmacueticals, and chemotherapy. |
