MAsk was the kinda guy when you met him made you feel you knew him for a long time and he encouraged you to follow your dreams.

We chatted a lot about stuff via phone. Not so much in the last few years but he was a down to earth guy and awesome.

I really first met him in Hermosa Beach California when I was there training with Frank Shamrock about 12 years ago. Mask at that time known as Charles came out of a shit brown van and gave me and Frank a bunch of free Tapout stuff. I was like who's this cat he was crazy and nuts but very likeable. I remember walking away and Frank saying these guys are going no where and I remember agreeing with him. Boy where we wrong. I always saw mask at every UFC show and always came by to say what’s up. He was a true Icon in the Sport and one of the most positive human beings you will ever meet.

R.I.P Mask you will be sadly missed,

Mark Pavelich

HeatXC 2: Fearless Official Press Release
MFC-Staff

Edmonton, Alberta - In just three weeks on March 27th, Dave Pavelich and
Pavelich Sports will follow up on the highly successful January debut of
HeatXC with an encore, HeatXC 2: Fearless. It's an event that promises to deliver some of the most intense, toe-to-toe mixed martial arts action that the City of Edmonton has ever seen.

The fledging new promotion is the Pavelich family's second successful MMA
endeavour but in contrast to The Maximum Fighting Championship where fans
can watch the stars of today, HeatXC promises to showcase the stars of
tomorrow. These fighters are young, hungry, and ready to prove themselves.
Some of the key fights of the evening will have Mike "Gates of Hell" Gates
(11-6-1), Jess "The Hitman" Clarke will be facing new star Paapa Inkumusah
It's a match-up that should wet the appetite of hardcore and casual fans alike, as both men are considered top MMA prospects but will also be looking to come out and make a statement.

Also on the main card will have MFC rookie and Jason "The Athlete" protégé
Evan Sanguin while inexperienced, he has demonstrated a tremendous amount of potential throughout his amateur career and has continued s successful  pro
career.

Other notables on the card include:

. Jake Bluhm (1-1). After a disappointing Heat XC debut, Bluhm has been training harder than ever and will be looking for a little redemption at HeatXC 2.

. Diego Wilson (2-0) and Connor Wood (1-1). The two Victorians are
products of BJJ specialist Adam Zugec's Zuma Gym and are a bet to be well-
versed in all things grappling.

. Ryan Fortin (3-0). The towering heavyweight will also be making his
HeatXC debut.

What more could MMA fans ask for? How about a guarantee.

"HeatXC 2 will have some of the most devastating endings in its history" says HeatXC President, Dave Pavelich. "I've done the match-making and these fights have sudden-ending and back and forth battles written all over them." And Fearless should give just a sampling of the great things to come from HeatXC in the future.

"HeatXC will get better after each event" noted Pavelich. "I've set a lot of big goals for this organization and we're looking to make 2009 a huge year."

HeatXC 2: Fearless will be held at the Ramada Edmonton on Friday, March
27th. Tickets are available through www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling
1-800-451-8000.or by phoning the Heat XC HOTLINE @ 780. 994.9402

MFC Signs Aurelio to Three-Fight Deal

By Kelsey Philpott, MFC Staff

The Maximum Fighting Championship announced Monday the signing of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace Marcus Aurelio (17-7) to a three-fight contract in the lightweight division.

Aurelio, a native of Fortaleza, Brazil, now trains out of Hallandale Beach, Florida alongside fellow countryman Thiago Alves at American Top Team. He’s a black belt under the legendary Andre Pederneiras; the same man that has also produced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sensation BJ Penn.

The former Pride and UFC veteran brings a wealth of experience to the lightweight ranks having competed against some of the world’s top fighters including Takanori Gomi and Mitsuhiro Ishida.

Aurelio must be considered an immediate contender at 155 and undoubtedly has his eyes set on an eventual rematch with current MFC Lightweight Champion, Antonio McKee, who defeated Aurelio via split decision back in 2003.

Expect a fight announcement later this week.

Tickets for MFC 21: Hard Knocks are available through www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling 1-800-451-8000. The event will also be broadcast live in the United States on HDNet at 10pm EST.

Marcus is awesome but I think they released him based on his fight vs Hermes?  Awesome to see MFC gathering these great fighters. A real feather in MFC's cap.

Aurelio is another sweet signing. He could have the answer for McKee.

I watched that McKee-Noble fight again.... McKee isn't necessarily as "boring" a fighter as it looks... he just has that ability to make guys look really bad.

Mark, who is in there at lightweight in MFC who's got high level jiu-jitsu anywhere near Aurelio's?

Oh yeah....

I know you've got lots of lightweights who's complete games can match up against Aurelio. Just picturing who's comparable on the ground.

Adding him sure does make for a lot of interesting match-ups.

MFC STAFF-TODAY

Following a second loss to reigning MFC welterweight champion Pat “Bam Bam” Healy, it was expected that Ryan Ford would get to work and climb the ladder back into contention.

That journey has stalled however, as new contract negotiations between Ford and the Maximum Fighting Championship have reached a stalemate. According to MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich, Ford has pitched monetary demands that are far and above every other fighter in the history of the MFC including its current champions. Pavelich called those demands “outrageous.”

“Ryan wants to make more money than any of our champions and the guys with UFC experience, and I’m not willing to do that. It’s totally wrong and against the ethics of this business for him to be paid more than those fighters,” added Pavelich.

“I would love to re-sign Ryan because we have some very good plans for him but we can’t afford his ego. This is my business – I don’t do anything else except mixed martial arts and put on sold-out shows. I will not go out of business by paying fighters exorbitant amounts of money. Look what happened to the IFL and Elite XC. They paid fighters ridiculous amounts of money and went broke. Look at the number of shows that tried to make a big splash by signing one or two guys to huge contracts. They did one or two shows and were never heard from again.

“I have always paid fighters what they are worth. Paul Daley, John Alessio, Pat Healy, Antonio McKee, Aron Lofton, David Heath – all of these guys agreed to contracts and were paid exactly what they agreed to. Yes, Ryan Ford sells a number of tickets to the local fans but the MFC is not a local organization. We are one of the biggest organizations in North America and we are not a one-man show.”

Pavelich has personally stuck by Ford during a number of legal issues outside of the ring, virtually taking him under his wing to steer him on a better path. That bond has been frayed but is not broken by the latest contract scuffle.

“Ryan is a big part of the MFC but no one fighter – not one person in any position in this company – is bigger than this organization,” noted Pavelich. “Everyone outside of the MFC has said we’ve catered to Ryan, made him the main event, given him the title shots – all of that stuff. He’s deserved it but he’s not bigger than the show itself.

“Jason MacDonald was homegrown by the MFC and he was never given an easy ride. And the MFC didn’t fall apart when Jason left to go to the UFC. In fact we’ve become 10 times bigger. Ryan was given two cracks at the title and lost both times by not following the game plan that his trainers laid out for him.

“Ryan hasn’t won the title, he’s never fought in the UFC, and yet he wants to make the kind of money that champions and guys with four or five UFC fights can demand. Ryan hasn’t yet reached the level to back up his demands.”

Ryan Ford is still under Contract till the end of July 2009 and under a mangement contract with Pro Camp Sports.

Very well worded. Classy job handling a delicate situation.

Good luck with all that.

Mark and I are currently in negotiations to employ me as an MFC fan.

We've kinda stalled on a few demands.
