If you really want a FUN snake, and one that is legal in GA, get a Brazilian smooth snake. They are an experience like none other. I miss mine terribly. Brazillian smooth snake = false water cobra.

I think I remember the pics. I'm a wimp, better stick with the standards. Better go to bed to. I have a 6:10am flight to Atlanta tomorrow.

I want a false water cobra so bad. One of the guys out here has one that is gravid. I will probably get one of the hatchlings. My kids will definately not be handling that one.

I had two. Got them as well established hatchlings. Actually it's hard not to 'establish' them since they are eating machines. They grew very fast. They are very 'smart' as far as snakes go, from what I saw. They knew the difference between me just being around, and when it was feeding time. I'm sure the odor tipped them off. To say they are enthusiastic feeers is an understatement. Initially I would feed them in a seperate tub, but once they got big enough, that didn't work because they would shoot out of the tub and come at me. I set up their enclosures so I could open either side, and had to fake them out as to which end I was putting the food item. I'd move to one end, tap on the side, and they'd shoot over there, then I'd jump to the other side, open it, stuff the rat in on forceps and dangle it, and usually within a second or two they'd hit it. It was like fishing, and suddenly having a big fish hit your lure. When they were not in their feeding frenzy state, I could easily handle them, although I always used a hook to remove them from their enclosure. Once out, you could tell holding one was like holding no other snake. They seem to be very much terrestrial-only snakes, and do not like being supported by limbs, so they hang on for dear life. But, not being climbers or constrictors, they do not hold on the way most snakes do - they do things like dig their head into you to try and gain a hold, which can really freak you out if you aren't used to it. I sold mine when they were about 5 and half feet long. Even though I was feeding them 2-4 adult rats a week, they were still relatively thin for FWCs. They were bulky compared to my corn snakes at the same length, but I've seen a 7 foot female that was massive and as thick and my forearms.

Sounds cool. My giant madagascan is very similar to that, the way he digs into your arm. Of course you don't swell up nearly as bad when he bites you.

Mine never really tried to bite me. One time the female "mouthed" me, but I barely felt anything, and wouldn't have even known had I not been looking directly at her. I met a guy who bred them once at Daytona. He siad he'd been bitten dozens of times with no reaction.

I have a picture of a guys hand after he got bit. It was pretty swollen. (Not that it did any real damage, just swollen). I wonder if the guy was just allergic to the venom. I guess they also have a pretty poor delivery system, so maybe they have to chew on you for a minute. When you fed did they just bite and chew the rats down, or did they bite and release? I am curious as to whether they envenomate their prey, and how long it takes to kill the rat.
