I used one for the first time in the UK and didn't like it much. I was soaked and felt like I was sweating cause I was wet but got on the scale afterwards and didn't lose much at all |

I just wanted to thank you for this post Chris. I followed it leading up to a state grappling tournament, and made weight. I rehydrated, and felt great the next day. I won my weight class in gi blue belt. |

Chris, aloha! I would really appreciate your expertise!! Right now my weight is 220 (fluctuates between 215-220 depending on the day) and I want to get down as low as possible for bjj tournament on Nov 8. (29 days), weigh-ins are morning of tournament. I fight purple belt so shouldn't fight till end of the day. Here are the weight classes, Cruiserweight: 170 – 189.9 lbs. Heavyweight: 190-209.9 lbs. Superweight: 210 lbs. and over, Because the weight classes are so spread should I even bother to cut? I've never really cut weight for a tournament, but I would really like to fight at a lighter weight. (My 220 is not a cut and toned right now) What would your advice be?? You think it possible to make the 189.9 weight??? If so how????? |

25 pounds is a lot of weight to lose in a month and still be strong. I would just do the 209 class for this one and then keep dropping for the next one but you would almost need to cut 12 in water and to fight the same day would be no good at all. I'm not saying it's not possible but it's not smart if you want energy as well. |

Chris, for a person with no experience in cutting weight, how do you determine a safe amount of weight to cut in his 1st mma match? I'm sure it varies depending on body type and weight. I'm alean guy 5'10 160lbs. |

Chris I saved this thread years ago when the chance for me to fight arise. This weekend I competed in Parris Island, SC held by ICF. I started two months ago weighing at 167. I diet down to about 157 and went on a 1000 cal diet for the last week. I was 153 24 hours out. The advice on when to put on the sauna suit was invaluable. I hit my mark of 145 come weigh ins. Come fight night I weigh in around 158. But more important I felt strong. I was the first fight of the night wining via RNC in 45sec. This was my first fight and the experience was amazing. The energy the crowd put off made me feel like that marvel character bishop. I took it all in and felt stronger. Thank you again for this thread and I will re-visit it as soon as I get my next fight scheduled. |

Do you ever have problems with the runs after cutting? If so how do you avoid/alleviate the issue? |

This can be common. That is why people drink electrolytes and stuff after. I use a drink called Deluge Sport and it really helps. You have to be careful how and what you eat after your cut to try and prevent that. |

So, is it caused by the loss of sodium from diet/sweat? |

For me the electrolytes imbalance cause me to cramp real bad in my hands and calf. I didn't get pedilyte soon enough but i drank alot of gateraid and water. When i finaly was hydrated it went away. For me i had a lot of mini meals to help stretch my stomach back to normal size (plus i got full really quick) |
