Hey I was planning to go to Japan in the next few years and hopefully landing a job there. Supposedly there is a demand for English teachers and I was thinking of taking a course in Japanese in university to get accreditation. Any other things I would need? Has anyone done anything like this? Thanks |

Yeah you don't need to speak Japanese to get a job there. I like gaijin pot, but also search for big companies who can give you a visa and hire you. AEON is good, and stay away from Nova if you can help it...I've heard nothing but bad things about them. |

To get a job through JET, you need a university degree, and not much else. They don't require you to speak Japanese, and they don't even require you to have your degree in anything relevant (like teaching or English). You just need to contact JET in your country, they'll send you out an application form, and probably you'll have an interview at some point. There's also quite a demand in Japan for non-Asian strippers, so if you're black/white/Hispanic, you're in! |

Finding a job in Japan, depends on how long you're going for, if its a year or more English teaching would be the best bet. My brother only recently came back from teaching English in Japan, he swindled his way into teaching despite not finishing his degree (they like you to have a degree) it is not necessary to know Japanese, there are a bunch of English teachers there that know hardly any Japanese, and a foreign community, so you can kinda scrape by, although, knowing Japanese or attempting to learn would be to your advantage. hope this was of help and not just a repeat of the other threads ;) |

What ever you do, come over before you get a job. Get the Japan Times Newspaper on any monday and you will have a lot of jobs to select from. Companies that hire abroad are usually big companies so many times they can help with accomdation etc but the pay usually isnt as good as you can find so I dont reccommend it.
