Just got settled in the new house and bought a bigger fish tank.  Anyone else keep saltwater fish?  Addictive habit but so serene and relaxing to watch....Unless theyre eating eachothers faces off...   Tank with live rock.  Bicolor Angelfish front and center. Percula Clownfish in front of Pulsing Xenia coral Eel Goby school - these guys are awesome True Percs - bought them to breed but they hate eachothers guts (bottom fish is 4 years old) Bubble Tip Sea Anemone Watchman Goby (recently deceased RIP) Broad with big horns (not in tank)

If you stock it with enough live rock, the only maintenance is to add fresh RO water when water evaporates, and clean the glass with a magnetic scraper. I do maybe 15 minutes of maintenance a month. If you dont add high maintenance corals and keep light levels low, its easy to keep. You have ignored this user.

But after a while, you get stressed out because they are so mean - you cant put anything in the tank with them! Clown trigger: You have ignored this user.

ChristPuncher, that would be so cool...I remember when I was in Costa Rica sitting in little pools on the beach surrounded by them. Wres, I used pretty high quality fiji liverock and that is just about the most expensive thing. Keep in mind that you build your tank - its not necesserily a one time cost. My tank as you see it would run about $2000.00 - $2500.00 USD range. To get started though initially you would put out around half that amount. You have ignored this user.

My buddy had one that got out and walked about 20 feet. His wife thought it was dog barf and when she bent down to wipe it up, it moved. Theyre very smart creatures - but not all that active in the aquarium. A lot of hiding all day. You have ignored this user.

i had two sharks in my 100 gallon tank, along with assorted other fish - they did fine. dumbest animals ever though, but fun to watch. salt water tanks are not easy to take care of IMO. I won't do it again w/out serious help. I had some amazing fish at one time. my puffer was my favorite, huge mofo. me eel lasted the longest, and like BEF said, I'd find that fucker behind my entertainment center a few times....thought he was dead each time (and stiff) but I'd drop him back in the tank and he was fine. Ive heard a lot of stories about people finding them on the floor all crispy, then putting them back in the tank to see them rejuvinate. Strange... When I had my trigger tank I had a white eel in it that turned purple when he ate. Drop a couple of goldfish in and it was quite a show. You have ignored this user.

I want something simple, but with interesting fish to start off with. Not just shitty goldfish. I heard you have to clean the freshwater tanks every month- and by clean, they said, to drain it and scrub it and sanitize it. That doesn't seem right to me. You have ignored this user.
