Questions Are Humans the only animals that hunt spieces to extinction? When humans hunt a species to extinction doesnt that destroy ecosystem?? (Mother Earth) If all humans were hunted to extinction instantaneously would our absence have a negative effect on the environment?? (Mother Earth) |

Are Humans the only animals that hunt spieces to extinction? no. the nile perch, which was not a native fish, was introduced to Lake Victoria about 50 years ago and has hunted to extinction many varieties of african cichlids. cichlids used to eat algae and waste in the lake so the lake has become all fiked up. if you have ondemand, watch Darwin's Nightmare on the sundance channel. It shows how the nile perch has fucked up all types of shit in africa besides other fish. incredible documentary. |

Exactly what are your criteria in your "comparison"? As for humans being the only ones to hunt a species to extinction, I doubt it. We're so good simply because most can't adapt like we can and we do everything bigger. But it would be unreasonable to think that in the 400 million year history of sharks that they haven't chomped down on more than a few omega fish. Nature doesn't wipe out other nature because of some great balance or innate reverence for other creatures. They don't do it only because they don't have the ability. There's not a lion on the planet that gives two shits about wisely managing the antelope population. If they found the last 2 on earth they'd eat them like they were the first 2. Also, qualifying effects as "good" or "bad" on the environment isn't really very valid. There aren't really "good" or "bad" effects, just effects. The K/T event that hammered the dinosaurs was catastrophic. It was "bad" for the dinosaurs. But without it we'd most likely never have evolved from the tiny shrew-like mammals that were running underfoot. So in effect that "bad" effect was very "good" for us. When you talk about nature, especially when trying to separate humans from it, you can't discuss it in human terms. That's wanting your cake and eating it too. |

Can you give an example?? First you say you doubt it then state how good humans are and how we do everything bigger and better so I am confused. It would also be unreasonable to assume we are the first and only intelligent civilization of beings that have inhabitted this planet or others in the so estimated 4.5 billion years old earth

No empirical evidence to support it. Only conjecture, which means that it's unreasonable for you to assume that there was an intelligent race that pre-dated ours. Secondly, how can you compare humans to an unknown race of unknown development that only MAY have existed? It's folly. |
