I live in Vancouver BC. I learned to fly fish around the Whistler area when i lived there in the 90's. Now I am in the city again i hit some of the local rivers and lakes in the lowermainland of the province here. fishbc.com is a site dealing with my local waters. I am also in the process of moving up from bellytube to small pram for stillwaters. I might build one or just buck and buy one, 8' maybe.. You have ignored this user.

Started in '85. From New Orleans; fish the entire Mississippi delta from Grand Isle (pretty good surf-fishing certain times of the year) in the west, to the huge expanse of marsh east of Lake Borgne. Check that. I haven't been to many of those places since Katrina. Some of those places are really hard to access now. Habitats range from salt marsh, to freshwater marsh and swamp, to pretty little wadeable rivers that run through pine and hardwood forests just north of Lake Ponchartrain. No freshwater trout in those, but plenty of largemouth, some Kentucky bass, and tons of sunfish. If you gear down to a 4-weight rod, you can have a ball, and rarely see another soul. I fished the White River about 20 years ago. Some nice browns in that river, IIRC. You have ignored this user.

well lately I have actually been doing more float fishing when I have been going out lately, hitting the Capilano and Vedder rivers in search of salmon at this time of year. Tomorrow might head off to the mouth of the cap and try for some Coho's. Tonight I went out for some ocean fishing from shore, just one med sized sculpin. I do really like to flyfish on the interior lakes, I just don't find the lower mainland trout to be big enough to hold interest for very long. I fly fish a couple of times a summer with my dad for atlantic salmon. He's a fanatic about it (goes every chance he can and take two weeks vaction every summer to visit a couple different rivers), me not so much. I'm not even very good at casting eventhough I "started" 4 or 5 years ago. For me its more a chance to spend some time with dad and spend a relaxing day on the river. Catching something is just a bonus. You have ignored this user.

Things may have changed. A dude named Brian bought Elkhorn and drastically increased the amount of the combo deal. Raised it up to something like $250. Which is still, in my opinion, a steal. The reel is worth that much. However, I think I saw $179 on their sign at last year's (Denver) fly fishing show. I think they realized people won't pay that because they don't know Elkhorn, and lowered it a bit. Brian sold me my first spare spool for $25. Now his show price is something like $69. It's what they should have been charging all along, but it still hurts. You have ignored this user.

Smallies? There are two types of fish in this world: Trout and trash fish. I choose to fish for trout, which don't require anything higher than a 6 wt. :^( I really like TFO rods. When I bought my Sage FLi, I went to Cabela's and cast like 6-8 different rods. Some more expensive than my FLi, some less. That blue TFO was my second favorite. I'm actually supposed to be getting a free TFO from a rep. I'm transfering his old FF videos from VHS to DVD for him. You have ignored this user.

Mullet, if you think trout don't require anything higher than a 6wt. then you've obviously never fished the White River. I had a brown snap my 5wt. 2 years ago with ease. I doubt a 6wt. would have faired much better. But for the most part you're right. Other than that one day i've never had any trouble with a fish on my 4, 5, or 6wt rods. And yes, TFO rods are awesome. However, my favorite rod thus far was my St. Croix Avid. I've never seen a 9' rod, regardless of price, that would mend that effortlessly. You have ignored this user.
