right - but almost no one believed that the earth orbited the sun. hell even archimedes passed it off as crap. i agree that copernicus shouldnt be on the list, but at least you can see why he is credited for establishing the heliocentric model That's why I used the word "like". The point is that it wasn't a new idea. |

Pencil Neck beat me to it. Although I would still include Newton in any "most intelligent" discussion, he is somewhat overvalued in the general public. My list would include: archimedes - before his time newton - impact is still felt today liebniz - same as newton, but will never get credit he deserves by the mass public gauss - to me #1 einstein - for the same reasons as newton |

I'm sorry, but if we're going to go with impact on civilization as our metric, I think Copernicus takes it. In 1,000 years the earth will still be orbiting the sun. Same thing in 10,000 years. Same thing in 1 million years. That's a pretty impressive mental feat. Can calculus cause planets to change their orbit? I don't think so, unless calculus is responsible for the Federation's Death Star. |

Alpo, How about doing some research on Calculus before you dry hump your home engravings of Newton and dismiss my points. And I didn't compare his Calculus to the Greeks you mush for brains, I compared his contribution of mechanics. The jump from what was known about mechanics before him to what was known after isn't a huge leap. I've got nothing against Newton, I'm just correcting your romo infatuation with him. Get the dildo with the Newton face carved at the end out of your ass, cause even though Newton was romo he preferred partners that were smart, so you have no chance at him even if he was still alive. |
